SModcast 42

newhead2.jpg

SModcast is the meandering palaver of a pair of dudes whose voices are so dull, they don’t deserve to be on the radio (and, hence, aren’t). Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier are SModcast.

The best thing about SModcast? It don’t cost nothing.

Sweet, I wasnt expecting one this week, but now I have something to drown out the noise my boss makes when she opens her mouth tommorrow (Or rather today since its already Xmas in Atlantic Canada.)

  2. Corey D. Says:

What better way to spend my Christmas then listening to my favorite Podcast! You guys are great, keep it up!

  3. Darren Wright Says:

Cool! Another SModcast to listen to! I, like Chris, wasn’t expecting a new one this week.
Its freezing cold here in Manchester, England. There’s no snow just freezing fog and horrible pissy rain, my girlfriends off at her mothers, I have a bottle of Jack Daniels and Jagermeister within arms reach (none of that egg nog rubbish!) and a new SModcast to listen to before I have to do the usual visit the folks thing I have to endure every year. Joy!
Keep up the good work guys, you’re awesome!

  4. Bryce Says:

    Look at this!!!

    http://www.doubleviking.com/bullet-points-the-15-coolest-fat-men-7435-p.html
AHHH Yeah Kevin’s rockn number 6 on the 15 coolest fat men list. Beating out such fat men as Meat Loaf, Marlon Brando, and Jabba!!!

  5. Shane Says:

Alright, extra long for the holidays.

  6. Sam Says:

Ahhh, the high point of my Consumerism Day.

  7. jessica Says:

Boxing day to me is the day you put out all the boxes the stuff u got for christmas by the curb for the garbageman but they suggest that you wait untill garbage day to discourage robbers. and insane shopping, boxingday is definately about sales.

which movie is it where it explains how they put christmas in december to coincide with the winter solstice to convert the pagans? and if im not mistaken it was the emporor constatine that legitamized the religion on his deathbead. and jesus was supposidly born in the summer.

canadian thanks giving or “the real thanks giving” as robyn in ‘how i met your mother’ called it this year in their holiday episode ’slapsgiving’(S3 E9) they said it “celebrates explorer martin faoubisher’s valiant yet ultimately unsuccessful attempt to find the northwest passage”.

oh and at one point kevin suggests that canada is no longer commonwealth, we are. hence the parliament and royal assent (formality as it may be).

    scincerly with bad spelling,
    girl gone postal

  8. Ant Says:

Listened to this BEFORE opening my presents this morning!

  10. n/a Says:

Canadian Thanksgiving is just like American Thanksgiving, only it comes sooner because our harvest would naturally come much sooner than yours.

  11. Tim Says:

o the christmas goodness little easier to deal with this day when i can laugh my ass off with the smodly goodness

    merry xmas from christopher, il

  12. FatD Says:

This episode of Smodcast made the holiday season much easier to endure as I’m a muslim student and don’t partake in any of the many christmas traditions.

Nothing is worse than having to watch the same specials about Santa carting his fat ass around the world year after year.

Perhaps a new christmas special from the ViewAskew Universe.

Merry christmas. Can’t wait for Zack and Miri.

  13. Jeff Says:

    Merry Noochmas!

  14. azm Says:

Ho ho hom thank you guys, this show just Rocks.

  16. Cajun Dave Says:

    Simply Smod-tastic

  17. Rand Says:

The funniest moment for me and my girl….

“So is there gonna be some sort of funding, to send this kid to private school or something?”

-Scott, to the Angel Gabriel, on being told he will raise the second coming off Jesus Christ.

Seriously, with off the cuff like that, why doesn’t that guy write some stuff?

  18. Kane Says:

You need to bring walt flanagon back in so you can have a three way discussion again, thats much more interesting

  19. Dan Jobson Says:

This episode of Smodcast is epic.

I always look forward to new episodes. Thanks Kevin & Scott- for all the laughs and truisms!

  20. MegaJoshX Says:

    Smikipedia is now live!

Found myself listening to the Xmas episode for the 4th time..
Made me feel that warm xmasfeeling here in a completly lack-of-xmas-japan. Thanks!

Looking forward to see Zack and Miri!

    Keep up the great work!

  22. Danny Says:

Awesome show, and awesome that it was double the length.

It’d be sweet if you posted the next one on Sunday morning or Saturday night, rather than Monday so i have something to listen to on a 4 hour plane ride to a vacation i don’t want to go to at ALL.

    Hope maybe kevin reads this.

  23. Ben Says:

Kudos to the music guy for “Stop the Cavalry” (~51 mins) a song pulled from the remnants of my childhood Christmas’ in northern UK.

Kev and Scott, thanks again. Happy New Year boyz.

  24. Monica Says:

I love you guys! The fact that you don’t know all the facts about things makes SModcast fun, entertaining, and educational. It prompts me to go in search of more information on topics such as Helen Keller, Milgram experiments, and the effects of LSD on an elephant, if administered properly. So today, thanks to SModcast, I was prompted to look up the meaning/ origin of Boxing Day. In a nutshell, originating in Britain and also known as St. Stephen’s Day, it’s about giving cash/ gift to less fortunate people in society. I found it at: http://www.snopes.com/holidays/christmas/boxingday.asp

Thanks for making my days so much more entertaining. I truly learn something new with each SModcast.

  25. Ter Says:

Happy Holidays from Terry in North Lincolnshire, UK - about to slap this latest SModcast on loud about to tackle a loft-clear.

  26. salsa_shark Says:

Merry Xmas and Happy Snootch Year fellas! Can’t wait to hear more!

  27. Patch Says:

I’m surprised that there wasn’t any caroling. Kevin seems like the kinda guy who will look for any excuse to start singing (as heard in past smodcasts). When is Harley making her cameo appearance?

  28. travis Says:

always hillarious especially listening at my job at the state’s max security psychiatric hospital. The patients love you guys….many love all guys….

  29. fran Says:

thanks for the christmas present. I wasn’t expecting it. have a day.

  30. JD Walker Says:

Given the chance, I’d probably blow you guys if you asked.

  31. SquashTheMatrix Says:

Love the SMODCAST fellas! … an interesting tie in to your latest podcast is part one of Zeitgeistmovie.com comparing all religions and tying the story of the three kings, dying on the cross, and the end of times to astrology in an interesting and jaw dropping presentation! Hope you take the time to enjoy! thanks for the free podcast… SmithMosierPodcast rocks!

  32. Mike Says:

Fuck…I have to watch Conan again now

  33. naomi Says:

Thank you for the shows! Makes inking my comics all the better, thugh the lines get squiggly from the laughing. Big hugs all around.

  34. Rmulatz Says:

As a Canadian, I have to say that pretty much nobody anymore knows what actually started boxing day. It is now just our version of “black friday” where stores have crazy sales to clear out their shelves.

Plus I get the day off…so that’s cool.

  35. thenewstyle Says:

“The G.I. Joe Shore Leave doll, with the Vietnemese brothel play set”

That concept alone will keep me laughing well into 2008….

  36. Dave C Says:

As long as you guys are hooked on looking up things on Wikipedia and talking about it, you NEED to look up Action Park. Its an amazing read, and I’m sure you’ve been injured there.

  37. Spot Says:

The Irish for little christmas “Nollaig beag” is pronounced null-ig be-ug. Smodcast is the greatest podcast ever made.

  38. rabbid guinea pig Says:

smodcast has changed the way i live my life. i feel like i’m closer to God when i hear kevin and scott.

Not Really, but it fun to listen to.

  39. April B. Says:

Rather awesome if I do say so. I actually put this one on my iPod. I want to Californis for a week so I had something funny to listen to. I was on a school band trip, very dull. But fun none the less. Thanks for giving me something funny to listen to once again!

  40. Paul Says:

I don´t know if you read these, but in the past, Boxing Day was a day when the rich people would serve the servants, allow the help to invite their families for a meal, spend a day in the manor, and be waited on by the bosses. Kinda a cool fuckin’ concept if you ask me.

  41. cheveuxgris Says:

Great SModcast! Supposedly Jesus was really born in the spring, and the Church selected 12/25 to coopt pagan winter solistice celebrations.

  42. Isurus Says:

I’m sure someone has asked you this by now, and I wouldn’t want to spoil the spontaneous nature of SModcast, but I’d very much like to know what you, as a big ‘Sweeney Todd’ fan and less of a Tim Burton fan, thought of the film version, if you’ve seen it.

  43. adam neeson Says:

    Hi kevin and scott,
my name is Adam Neeson and I’m from Ireland.I was just writing to ask if you have every visited Ireland before? plus would you{kevin} every do a q and a in ireland?
    your fan
    Adam Neeson

  44. DwightDGreen Says:

    I second Isurus’s query.

  45. pat gustafson Says:

    Nice.

  46. Penny Ponders » Blog Archive » Totoro’s Wild Ride Says:

[...] home (the wrong way I might add), as I picked up a ride with KY and Pogue. Ah…. Listening to: Smodcast 42 (for like the 20th [...]

  47. gibby Says:

what the hell i only get 8 seconds of the 42 smodcast…………..

  48. Andy Says:

Nothing beats the little Skits that Kev and Scott do(eg Ned Smitty- Fuckiin Hilarious.)
Thank God Kev is no longer ranting about his dog’s and talking about candid social issues.
    Keep it up!

  49. Richie Says:

    Hi Kevin and Scott

Love Smodcast, hope you guys had a great New Years,

P.S., bring Mrs. Smith back on, as a cameo, shes great!

  50. George Says:

Actually a Smod free Smodcast would be pretty great.

Put Jen and Malcolm on there so they can talk about Kevin without him around.

  51. t1m Says:

Actually George, SModcast would suck without Kevin. If anyone is on it, Smith and Mosier have to be on as well. Bring on Mewes, although I am sure most people only want the Mewes we know from the movies and that might be too much pressure to try to be something. i say, talk about Canada more. or, Seth Rogan, or hatred for Tim Burton. How about Cloverfield? I am sure the interweb geek in Kevin Smith has some interest in Cloverfield.

  52. Jason C Says:

…just wanted to thank the poscast Medispective (a video game show) for mentioning the SModcast. I love it.

  53. Patch Says:

Can’t wait for the next smodcast. It really is one of the highlights of my week. And since people correcting you is such a huge part of Smodcast I wanted to let you guys know that Cimmeara the homeland of Conan is pronounced with a hard C (K sound).

  54. Seth Says:

Awesome smodcast, listened to this one and the Honkey one on my drive back to school.

I also realized something as bad as the N word…or at least I’ve been told it is. Apparently “Midget” is equivalent to N—–… Never knew that.

  55. Devin Says:

I don’t know if this is up here but I keep getting mad because the keep saving Jesus was born in December. He was actually born in July. December 25 was chosen to cover up a pagan holiday. Even the St Nicholas thing happened on December 6 not the 25th. Just thought I would clear that up for everyone. It is one more thing for smikipedia.

  56. George Says:

I think Jen, Malcolm, Dave, Walt, Mewes, etc. are all just as lively and interesting as Kevin is and would love to hear what they have to say without Kev around. He’s a sparkplug and brings a ton of electricity to the broadcast but he can also be overwhelming at times. Just my opinion.

I do have to agree though. After Superman, the infamous Planet of the Apes story and then Kevin putting Sweeney Todd in Jersey Girl I was curious if there’d be another tongue in cheek “Burton on my coat tails” moment.

  57. sammy j Says:

    where’s 43, we’re waiting

  58. Marble Says:

Yes we want number 43! Im nothing without it…and I feel that SModcast would be nothing without Kevin. Walt and Bryan are my favorite guests but its still much better with Scott. I three way with the S&M of SModcast and either Walt, or Bryan…or both, would be amazing
    SMoochie boochie ya’ll.

  59. Justin Says:

Thanks to smodcast I’ve become a hit at work spouting missinformation on such varied topics as Helen Keller, to boxing day…thank you Smodcast

  60. Jeffrey Says:

I love smodcast, Kev and Mos have very interesting conversations with a noticeable ease, and for as low brow as they can be, they are still super witty and intelligent…. Keep up the good times. Looking forward to the new flick, best of luck with production. Seth Rogan is way funny.. Come to Lancaster, pa sometime.
    Go Amish, or go home!
    later
    wetter

  61. Dan Says:

Good Job, very interesting and a great learning experience.
    Thanks for the entertainment,

  62. azm Says:

    Cant wait for next one

  63. Eric Says:

Absolutely the best podcast or collection meanderings snip its of information I have on my ipod. Brilliant and even better the the amazing correlation between the birth of Christ and Conan the barbarian was not short and hilarious and awesome.

Cheers to Scott and Kevin!!! Please keep it up in 08′

  64. Dave Says:

Started listening to smodcast after hearing a mention of it from Kevin on OnA. Have been hooked since. It’s nice to kick up my feet and relax with a little less PC than society demands. Thanks to Scott, Kevin and all involved including their families for the time they take to put this out. Binghamton, NY.

  65. Laramie Says:

I just discovered your podcast and am currently listening to your latest one. I’m really enjoying it but I thought I could clear something up for you. You were talking about the days between christmas and epiphany and how the kings were late and the crappy gifts that they gave the kid. The Italians have a belief about a woman named La Befana who they see as like santa. Here is a link to the story… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_Befana but if you don’t feel like reading it I’ll sum it up for you. The kings got lost and stopped for directions at Befanas house (which is why they were late). She gave them food and shelter for the night and they told her why they were traveling. They invited her to join them but she said no because she was too busy cleaning. She changed her mind after they had left and decided that she wanted to see the kid but she couldn’t find the kings and got lost. There are some stories that say that she made it to the baby and cleans the manger while mary and the baby are resting. Some stories say that she never made it and now she searches the world for the kings. Still others say that she was a woman who lost her child and became delusional when she heard about the baby Jesus, thinking that it was really her kid. She makes it to the baby, gives him gifts and becomes his godmother. So she’s known as the mother of all childern in Italy. She is the one who gives coal (but now it’s rock candy) or sweets and gifts to bad or good kids, not santa. She is usually seen as an old lady riding a broomstick through the air wearing a black shawl and is covered in soot because she enters the children’s houses through the chimney. So there you go, there are some stories about someone cleaning the manger and all the mess that the birth caused and a reason for the kings being late

  66. C-rad Says:

When are we gonna get Kevin, Scott, and then an additional thrid person? We’ve had I think 5 three people smodcast but none with Scott. I think Scott makes the show and it would be sweet if we got say Scott, Kev and Bryan Johnson. anyways love Smodcast, listened to them all and especially enjoyed the Christmas one. I think that it was funny how Kev was kinda tryin to keep it one Christmas but soon they were talking about Conan. Keep up the good work

  67. Stool Says:

You guys need to hurry up and make another SModcast…

  68. brodiemash Says:

Hurry up with the next one, already!! Keep up the good work, fellas!

  69. Patch Says:

I hope the reason we aren’t getting a new Smodcast is because you guys are working really hard on the new movie. If not, then turn off the Law & Order ya lazy bums!

  70. PoonDockTaint Says:

I too definitely miss not having a new SModCast…

However, I forgive it ’cause not getting a new one just inspires me to go back to the old ‘uns and marvel at the notion of Bertie Bott’s Beans in Hermionie’s a$$, the love of Max Von Sydow, and think about Good Vibrations.

P.S. Thanks to SModCast for turning me on to RedTube. Yess.

  71. Jenny Says:

    43 please!!

  72. Chris Respicio Says:

    Quick Thoughts dot dot dot:

    Hey Smiff & Mose,

    Long-time Smodcast listener, first-time caller.

Episode #42: “Hey, let’s all get together on mass and celebrate Christ!” “What, like a ChristMass???”

    …kinda reminded me of…

Chasing Amy rewrite: “Hey, let’s give the film a little more scope.” “What, like take the kitchen scene and put it in a fuckin’ hockey rink???”

(quotes may be a little off)

  73. nick thakur Says:

well americans have black friday after thanksgiving and canadians don’t

  74. lungfull Says:

ok so im a bit late…but i only found out about smodcasts a month or so ago…

hearing you guys talking about x-mas gifts reminded me of my folks….
i remember one year i got a electric slot car set (scalextric) and my folks thought it would be funny to wrap the plug up in another box….ya gotta love the creative shit your folks pull…lol

keep up the good work…hopefully i’ve caught up by this years christmas-cast
