SModcast 50

SModcast is the meandering palaver of a pair of dudes whose voices are so dull, they don’t deserve to be on the radio (and, hence, aren’t). Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier are SModcast.
The best thing about SModcast? It don’t cost nothing.

SModcast 50: Gnome Alone -
In which our heroes relate ribald tales of corporate piracy, draw upon the scat games of the short and fantastical, discuss the first generation of hand-held games, and reminisce about the imaginary lengths a boy will go to in an effort to secure some free comic books.
[CONTENT WARNING] SModcast features harsh language and even harsher notions of propriety. Listener discretion is advised.

May 19th, 2008 at 1:10 am
Thanks Kev!! Another Smodcast to satisfy the soul. BOAT SOLO!!
May 19th, 2008 at 1:16 am
Did anyone see the mention of Scott on “Robot Chicken” this week? It was pretty funny they did a Britney Spears last word a la “Citizen Cane” and it was “Mozer”. After her death they found a box filled with items that could be connected to “Mozer” and one of the items was a signed photo of “Clerks” producer Scott Mosier. Do the writters know something we don’t?
May 19th, 2008 at 1:55 am
DEFINITLY ONE OF THE BEST SMODCAST EVER!
May 19th, 2008 at 2:28 am
As grateful as ever for another wonderfully entertaining look into your warped minds called Smodcast.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:28 am
I guess those are better than drawing dicks.
May 19th, 2008 at 2:57 am
That should be Kevin’s next movie…although it’s been semi-done in the original ‘Clerks,’ an original movie about a fourteen-year-old and a twenty-year-old doing road trips via no drugs or alcohol is definately Kevin’s next script. Needs to be on paper. Hell, I’ll pay for it! LOL.
I think I peed my pants during the end of this Smod…
May 19th, 2008 at 3:06 am
excellent! Walt was hilarious in this one
May 19th, 2008 at 3:21 am

Thanks guys!
May 19th, 2008 at 4:50 am
Chuck Palahniuk, the author of Fight Club, also has a nice little anecdote about when he first learned how to jerk off. Start about at the 0:50 point.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rCiH609bHI
And thanks for the laughs. Had one of my wisdom tooths pulled out today and I’m gonna go watch Clerks now.
May 19th, 2008 at 5:35 am
everyone always thanks kevin smith, but no one ever thanks scott, and without him there would be no smodcast ( un less you got jason or walt) so I take my hat off to you Scott, thanks for doing your stuff.
May 19th, 2008 at 6:53 am
Congrats on the big 5-0 sirs. Thanks again Kev and Scott for that bright shining hour that I look forward to every week. Keep ‘em coming!

Walt Flanagan is Keizer Soze…
May 19th, 2008 at 11:10 am
I used to work at the Suncoast Corporate HQ (which was called Musicland, Inc). The idea of my bosses discussing how to stop the nefarious Walt Flannigan is too funny!
May 19th, 2008 at 12:09 pm
an entire episode about how your putting the screws to your customers, and your suppliers. prepare for the FBI to be knocking down your door. Walt Flanagan, king pin of west jersey
May 19th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
Walt Flanagan for president. Seriously.
May 19th, 2008 at 3:18 pm

May 19th, 2008 at 4:36 pm
Congratulations on making 50 incredible episodes of smodcast Scott and Kevin!
May 19th, 2008 at 4:56 pm
Seriously, best Smod ever. I love Walt, he’s amazing, you two together always makes me laugh. Walt is a crafty motherfucker. Genius, I now know how the business works. :]
May 19th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
Walt Flanagan is a genius. Every time he comes on to the SModcast I end up almost on the floor laughing.
May 19th, 2008 at 9:41 pm

May 20th, 2008 at 7:21 am
A few months ago I started listening to Smodcast. You see, I walk to work on a daily basis for exercise and to save on the horrific price of gas. I used to ride my bicycle, but it turned out to be a piece of crap and I need to get it replaced. Anyway, I want to thank Mr. Smith for some of the most enjoyable walks I have ever had. OF course, I have managed to burn through all fifty of these in a short period of time so I have been supplementing my Smodcasts with other podcasts at Quick Stop. This one was really a fun time in that Walt Flanagan is always a welcome voice and tells some of the best stories. I loved the toy scams. I had made it to work by the end of the ‘cast and the part where you two were talking about Mewes in the car had me sitting down laughing my ass off.
Once again gentlemen, thank you for making a forty five year old man’s morning walk something to look forward to.
Have a great day and keep up the good work!

LONG LIVE WALT’S STORIES
May 20th, 2008 at 11:39 am
Great episode! I’m pretty sure the Luke/Wampa set was a Target exclusive, though.
May 20th, 2008 at 11:48 am
Love it - used to work at Suncoast in high school, can relate to that story on so many levels. In our store, all the employees just fought over the chase figures from every box and most never even went out on the floor.
May 20th, 2008 at 1:37 pm
A good friend of mine own’s a comic book store. He’s GOT to hear this SModcast!!! (www.comicbookink.com John Munn RULES!)
May 20th, 2008 at 9:36 pm
Anyone have a clue what the opening musical number is to this episode?
May 20th, 2008 at 9:40 pm
Doooood… I think I know the book you’re talking about, but I would swear it was called Trolls… Not Gnomes. Had the bare-tittied drawing any everything. Golden showers were not a part of this book as I recall.
Here’s the one I’m thinking of:
http://www.amazon.com/Troll-Book-Michael-Berenstain/dp/0394842952/ref=sr_1_40?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1211334105&sr=8-40
May 20th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
This is by far one of my favorite smodcasts, I was laughing so hard in totally inappropriate situations at school thanks to this one. But really, the whole idea of organized criminal activity dealing with the comic book/action figure industry really interests me. I think you could possibly expand this idea into maybe a movie or a tv series, I think it’d be great. It could like star Steve-Dave and the Fanboy, it’d be great.
May 21st, 2008 at 9:27 am
Totally Iron Man kicked ass (can’t wait for the second one).
Indiana Jones is not going to pull the same numbers, no fuckin’ way.
It’s funny you mentioned Toys R’ Us, as I was just at a T’R'Us, and I hadn’t been to one in *years*. Apparently the Barbies are all dressed like skanks now.
WTF is this world coming to? Like, I went to post office a couple months ago and there was this high school chick, w/ some spray-on gym shorts, and he ass was looking nice and what not, but W T F, put it away, lil’ - I’m a gentleman and what not, but damn, at the Post OFFICE - take a break skanks.
You keep waving your asses in front of other peoples faces, they are going to react. - And said reaction probably won’t make for a pleasant experience.
Anyway - The Dark Knight has a tough act to follow, after Iron Man, but I have a feeling it will be pretty kick ass too. Hopefully they didn’t re-cut it after Heath’s death. Speaking of which, that’d be cool if they had a lil’ tribute to him during the credits (it’s definitely a DVD feature/easter egg - if that sort of thing doesn’t make the theatrical release).
I got all sorts of shit to discuss, but it’s too damn earlier, and I’m guessing you read this board very seldom. Still, I trust all is well. Cheers mate.
May 21st, 2008 at 12:47 pm
Great to have Walt back on the Smodcast, bring him back anytime!
May 21st, 2008 at 6:54 pm
I really really wish these would go longer.
May 22nd, 2008 at 7:54 am

May 22nd, 2008 at 1:19 pm

May 23rd, 2008 at 2:17 am

May 23rd, 2008 at 2:40 pm
Uh, yeah. Hi. First time commenter, long time listener. Being as this is SMOD 50, I thought I’d show a little gratitude. Many, many thanks to Kevin, Scott, and all the notorious guests.
And like what’s his nuts so many lines above me…Can’t wait for [Zack and] Miri to OPEN.
May 23rd, 2008 at 4:36 pm
I loved this SModcast! I have been getting strange looks from co-workers as I am laughing hysterically in a primarily silent maze of cubicles. SModcast makes my Fridays so much better. Keep up the great work sirs and congrats on 50 episodes!
ps Walt is my favorite guest, I loved his flea market stories from episode 13.
May 23rd, 2008 at 6:19 pm
I concur, another SWODCAST was pretty choice. Many gratitudes.
May 23rd, 2008 at 6:28 pm
Could somebody tell me what’s the name of the track at the end of the podcast?
May 24th, 2008 at 1:27 am
Paul Simon [50 Ways To Leave Your Lover].
Also if you’re a fan of Eminem by any chance,
check out Murder, Murder from the Next Friday
soundtrack which samples this track. Not the album
version though, get the version mixed with 2pac.
Post Script: I love Scott Mosier, but damn do I also
love Walt Flanagan. I would definitely download a
podcast if he did his own. I’d even pay a couple of
bucks.
May 24th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
Hardy: You da man!
May 25th, 2008 at 1:33 am
Love the show but I have to crack up that Kevin and Walt took to 6:00 explaining about comic distributors when none of that was necessary.
Love the Flanagan accent too.
May 25th, 2008 at 3:00 am
I must have Surfs up Batman
May 25th, 2008 at 3:29 am
Favorite show yet. Everytime Walt guest starts I learn about the shady side to some new seemingly innocent enterprise, from hardballing elderly swap-meet vendors to scamming toy stores. Who knew he was such a criminal mastermind?
May 25th, 2008 at 12:18 pm
I was crying at the end I was laughing so hard. That bit should make it into one of your movies, even if it isn’t a Jersey Chronicles movie.
May 27th, 2008 at 6:30 pm
I almost died listening to this. I was working out in my basement listening to Smodcast and at the 52:30 almost dropped a 40lb weight on my head I was laughing so hard.
May 28th, 2008 at 6:29 pm
Listen to you two lose it at the end was freaking hilarious!
May 29th, 2008 at 7:55 am
DEFINITLY ONE OF THE BEST/FUNNIEST SMODCAST EVER!
May 29th, 2008 at 2:57 pm
The best Smodcast ever. I lived those stories in my life. I worked at comic shops in high school and college and had stories so similar to what they were describing. I was crying I was laughing so hard. From the action figure purchases to the comic conventions, just fantastic.
We did our action figure purchases different. We’d buy the cases for the chase figures, sell those for profit, then return the bunk with no receipt or one if we had it for either Geoffry Dollars or other figures. We also did this with bunk card games unopened boxes. We were so notorious Toys-r-us changed their policy on returns. Those were the days.
June 4th, 2008 at 2:56 am
the good stuff
June 6th, 2008 at 7:58 am
[...] how many times I’ve laughed out loud at work because of something said in a Smodcast. In a Smodcast I recently listened to Smith and one of his cohorts and manager of one of Smith’s comic book stores, Walter [...]
July 2nd, 2008 at 1:33 pm
Who knew the man behind “Tell em’, Steve-Dave” was this great?!!
July 21st, 2008 at 10:33 am
I just listened to this. Walt, man, you are one unscrupulous motherfucker haha. What with ripping off old ladies at flea markets and this stuff. Wow, geez. haha
September 3rd, 2008 at 3:06 pm
I was too amused when I noticed that there were 69 comments (before I posted this one, obv.), & inadvertently quoted “Clerks - the Animated Series”:
“69…heheh.”
