SModcast 54

newhead2.jpg

Your TextSModcast is the meandering palaver of a pair of dudes whose voices are so dull, they don’t deserve to be on the radio (and, hence, aren’t). Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier are SModcast. The best thing about SModcast? It don’t cost nothing.

  1. Robert Says:

    Thank god for Sunday Nights

  2. Blane Says:

    Woo more smod!

  3. deq Says:

    yay. thanks guys

  4. Lewman Says:

    Woohoo!

  5. Russ Says:

Yippie! First! I’m such a dork :-) Thanks for another Smod, Kevin.

  6. Bryce Says:

Hey, well sadly I think this will be the only SMod I will not listen to. You’re daughter is very cute but my family has 6 children 3 of which are girls 5-11 and 3 boys 5-15 I get enuff of the laughy, giggling, randomness from all them and hate to say it do not get anything from hearing it on a podcast. Sorry, know that may come off as me being an asshole but I assure you I am not the one who is an asshole.

  7. chad Says:

    no no bryce

    you are being an asshole

  8. Robert Says:

Worst Smodcast ever! Why do children have to ruin EVERYTHING.

  9. SoozK Says:

It’s Monday! It’s SModDay! My fave poddy-pod-pod is up once more. Can’t wait to listen, thanks Kevin!

  10. scott Says:

    i 2nd that

  11. Guy Says:

First off, if there was no smod. Someone like you would be bitching and moaning over it. Also if you weren’t going to listen to it, why come too quick stop in the first place? It was on the board, that he didn’t record one with Scott, and then was going to record one with Harley.

But hey Bryce, I don’t blame you. I mean what’s would be the point of having a internet connection, if you couldn’t complain over a minor inconvenience.

    Bring on the elephants!

  12. SmodFan47 Says:

Ken, seriously. Where do you get this stuff?!

If you don’t wanna turn out a music list for every SModcast, I understand, but PLEASE hook us up with at least a partial list for this week.

I usually recognize obscure movie or stage soundtrack titles mixed with the more popular tunes in the background, but this week was a whole new level of obscure, especially that barbershop thing at the end.

    Well done, sir!

  13. UncaScroogeMcD Says:

I’ll always answer specific questions about the tunes - just not post full lists. That’s for others to do.

    And the end cut?

    Groucho Marx - “Father’s Day”

  14. MaxAmazing Says:

    It was a nice thought.
Sadly the first smodcast I have had to turn off from sheer boredom. Made it 15mins in though.
    Here’s to next week.

  15. Nick Says:

    Get Bryan Johnson back on!

  16. Dan Says:

wait, what, a whole episode co-hosted by Harley? I guess it’ll be clean and no poop-christ stories… :(

    ~Dan

  17. Dan Says:

PS- I didn’t mean that to come off as complainy… it’s a sweet (as in touching) episode. Good for Father’s Day.

    ~Dan
    http://jazzsick.wordpress.com/

  18. Joshytits Says:

I thought that was an excellent fathers day smodcast. Harley is adorable, and Kevin seems like a kick ass dad. My dad and I never laughed at a giraffe’s hiney hole, I can tell you that much.

  19. Andrew Says:

I have never turned a shmodcast off :( Could only make it thorough half of this one.

  20. The not so silent Bob Says:

I made it 22 minutes before shutting it down, I kept waiting for Mos to save the show, but I ended up reading the bitch session on the board. It’s great that he did it, didn’t have to do it on fathers day, but I can only listen to kids for so long. I’m not complaining I’ll just wait until next week. As long as we’re shouting for guests BRING BACK THE WIFE

  21. i got it Says:

    people shoulc unbunch thier panties
    ITS FREE!!!
    ps
    pour cows
    defenceless
    easly trapped
    & dumb

  22. Duncan Fitzgerald Says:

I wish my parents told me what shizer was when I was a kid.

  23. Harry Scotter Says:

    Cute smod :P BUT..

    S(smith)M(mosier)odcast

    Guests = NO.

Even Mewes and I love me some Mewes. It should just be Kev & Scott.

  24. Peter J. Says:

A very fine smodcast indeed. I can’t help but wonder about how I was in the third grade. I’d love to see an Giraffe penis with no skin on it. The butt-hole thing has got me intrigued as well.

I remember well, the post you put up around your father’s death. It made me cry, for your sorrow Kevin. And angry that at the same realization that the same loss will be visited upon me some day (not to mention all the other loved ones which will lose along our way thru life).

I’m sure you gave your daughter a big hug at the conclusion of this recording. ‘Good on ya’ ol’ man - thanks for sharing.

    ~ Stay Soapy ~

  25. Drama Says:

why is everyone bitching this shit is awesome

  26. logruszed Says:

    Ken:

Not relating to this particular SModcast (at least not as I know since I’ve not listened to it yet), but I was hoping you could settle a quandary I have about the music over the past year.

Q: Are Barenaked Ladies the most used band for the program?

  27. UncaScroogeMcD Says:

    No…

  28. justhesh Says:

Super cute. Beats plumbing stories any day!

  29. Here Be Dragons Says:

I love it. An hour of tormenting your child on the internet. Her commentary is just as insightful and equally as relevant as Mosier’s (snoogins).

  30. Jason Says:

As dad of a little girl myself I think that was a very adorable SModcast. Mix tapes did rock!

  31. Dick Says:

Harley seems like a cool kid.

  32. Darren Wright Says:

Cool SModcast if you ask me. I cant understand all the people complaining about Kevin doing a whole SModcast with Harley. How can you think that a father who loves his kid and wants her to be involved is anything but a good thing? I think its cool. And she’s such a cute kid, how can you not like the episode?
And I have seen the whole Body Worlds thing too in The Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester. The process is called Plastination. Its a fascinating exhibit and I whole heartedly recommend it to everyone who has ever wondered what they look like on the inside!

  33. Leroy Jenkins Says:

SHodCast (the H is for Harley) wasn’t bad. But it’s a bit hard listening without the occasional swear word and inapporpriate acnecdote… I do miss me some Mosier.

Anyways, it was great hearing Harley on Father’s Day. Good job to the both of you.

…But when Mosier comes back from hiking, do another one about how fucked up that Human Exhibit was at California Sciencenter!!

  34. Jake Says:

im a giant smodcast fan i cant go a day without puting one on but even though this is cute its defintly a boring episode, best guest is walt i do enjoy when u have funny stories about the kid and when she was on for like 15 min and i do realize its free so thanks for smodcast

  35. madonnaneedsacumbath Says:

Thanks again Kev and Mos. Love it.

  36. Joshua s. Says:

Awsome as always very cute and funny loved it!
NEVER been a bad smodcast! calm down people if it dont hit the style you like alter you perception a little
and you’ll laugh your ass off

  37. Fredrik Says:

Nice one Kevin, really cute way of celebrating fathers day.

I agree about the 3d screens, I almost jumped out of the cart at Universal Florida when Doc Ock swung a brick at me on the Spider Man ride. Creepy stuff.

  38. Luke the Crippled Says:

This Smod was priceless. And anyone who bitches bout it has their heads out of wack*

Kev your an awesome Dad. You talk to your kid not as a Dad but just as a friend. That is truly awesome Bro.

  39. isurus black Says:

Pay no heed to the haters. I think this was a great way to celebrate Father’s Day, and answer the question I’ve been wondering since Harley did that intro a few weeks back; that you and she CAN carry a full length show by yourselves (although it got a little silly with the beep-boop towards the end). And like your other fatherhood-inspired work, I think that while a few of your fans may pan it, it will go on to be one of your most critically acclaimed SModcasts.

All that being said, I look forward to some more adventures with Harry Scotter and/or Ned Smitty next week. Cheers!

  40. Bryce Says:

Kind of glad to see I’m not the only one who felt as I did. I wasn’t slamming Kev or his daughter. I understand completely to have a father’s day ep with the kid makes sense it is cute, but like I said I’m the oldest in a family with 6 kids and I do not get joy, or laughs, or anything of hearing more of what I have to deal with on a daily in a podcast.

While I’m ranting I want to say something. To all the people who say “hey it free stop complaining.” Yes, it is free and I love SModcast(re listened the all the episode multiple times) but there are also as they said themselves a million other podcasts out there that aren’t anywhere near as popular as this fine one but still awesome and funny in there own way and they put a lot of hard work into it but never once reference the fact they do it for free. Hundreds, thousands, hell maybe a million other people all over the world do podcasts and a very small percentage get paid anything at all let alone enough to justify the time put into it. Thanks to anyone who read this rant and thought about it.

  41. Dianae Says:

Props to Harley Quinn for hanging out for an entire Smodcast. Great day for that milestone. Enjoyed hearing her laughter and general cuteness!

  42. cleartrampoline Says:

    Cute cute cute. :)

  43. duckydale Says:

I listen to things like this and I wish I had this sort of relationship with my dad. I guess is kinda pussy for a 32 year old to want to be all affectionate with his dad… I wish we would both drop the wall. anyways, Kev, you’re an awsome dad. I hope Harley looks back on this fondly in 20 years.

  44. uncle butter Says:

fuck anyone who hates on any smodcast….its free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  45. OJ Says:

This is incredibly adorable. Kev certainly has a way with childish jest. Oh and it amazes me that Harley opens the show better than Scott (although Scott can go better into the dramatizations).

She also has the making of a little comedian: “Oh random high school girl.” I got a few chuckles out of that.

  46. Whipjacka Says:

Why are people telling the people with complaints to calm down? Their comments seem thought out and civil. Nobody complained that the episode existed, they merely stated that it wasn’t for them. I always felt that is why the comment area existed. So people can comment on and Critique that particular post(episode)

I love SModCast…. It is FREE!!!

  47. James Says:

hey great podcast been listening for a while now finally got round to leaving a comment feel free to check out me website http://www.myspace.com/reviewist we do sorta pod cast thingys check it out would love feedback

  48. Danner Says:

Aw, I thought hearing the back and forth between Kevin and Harley was really cute. I also found it amusing that Kevin seems more interested in poop and anuses than his 8 year-old kid.

  49. WaltLover Says:

Where’s the new one with Walt? Us Walt fans have been jonesing.

  50. Sheryl Says:

I can see how this smodcast may not appeal to everyone. But I highly enjoyed the Father’s day banter between Kevin and Harley. She’s a sweet kid. But I’m ready for some Mosier and profanity again.

  51. Drew Says:

Stop giving Kev negativity for this SModcast! I think its great that he loves his kid and talks to her for his Father’s Day SModCast. Why waste your time giving him bad vibes. Happy belated birthday Harley. I love it when he mixes it up with guests…

  52. Neounderhill Says:

This Smodcast was kind of like the Jersey Girl of Smodcasts.
It’s what he wanted to do, but not exactly what a lot of his fans were looking for.

  53. Cindy Says:

    i liked this smodcast.
yes it was different and i missed moiser…but how great is it that harley has this broadcast for the rest of her life.
i lost my dad at 11 years old and i would kill to have this banter with my dad recorded.

i think it was great and it was a great fathers day present.

ps….harley is very lucky to have a kick a$$ dad!!

  54. Wendell Says:

I actually thought it was alright and even liked it, These are convo’s Kevin puts up with the people close to him, convo’s about everyday things in which he talks about and lets us listen in on every once in awhile, i have alot of lil sisters so i may be used to hearing lil girls giggle, and it even reminds me of home, (In the Marines) but its nice having a mix in thier and for a second even though the show had a child in it, it still had a more mature tone then most other smodcasts, I love all the smodcasts and no matter how much people take them for granted or bitch and complain i hope thier continues to be a variety of guests and smodcast topics :)

  55. Bobaah Says:

Very cool. It’s pretty much the same usual humour but instead of saying ass and dick they’re sayin hiney-hole and weinie, which is probably funnier in a “tee hee hee” kinda way. Well it made me tee hee hee anyway.

  56. Siobhan Says:

I love Harley and Kevin is such a good father. There’s nothing nicer than seeing a father who likes to hang out with his daughter (instead of his son) and interact with them on their level, something that a lot of us didn’t have. She’s lucky to have such dedicated and supportive parents. So if you don’t want to be cheered up by one of the cutest kids and her amazing father than don’t listen but don’t give Kev shit for it if you don’t want to listen to it.

  57. Diana Says:

I finally have the illlustration of the gift horse parable I’ve been looking for… hey guys, sometimes it’s a stallion and sometimes it’s a pretty pony but it’s ALWAYS a gift horse! Get away from it’s fecking tonsils!

  58. von Says:

So sweet So sweet, I’m a daddy’s girl too and listening to you and Harley was so very nice.

  59. Lesley Says:

Kevin needs to talk about “The Happening” on the next smodcast!!
And Harley Quinn is super cute.

  60. Kevin Says:

There was nothing wrong with this episode. It fits the timing of its release perfectly, but it just happens to not appeal to the core audience who love every other episode. As a 21 year old dude, I can’t relate to either side of this conversation. I’m not a father, and I’m not a chick so I can’t be nostalgiac about how I used to be.

There were still a few laughs, and I’d certainly rather have it then no episode. I would have preferred a couple of the trademark what-if scenarios that always lead to awesome SModder fodder, but this was still enjoyable.

  61. Techwid Says:

Just wanted to post since I saw so many people unhappy with this weeks SMODcast. I’m 23, unmarried, not a huge fan of children and yet I loved this episode. I listen to SMODcast and watch “An Evening With Kevin Smith” because you are such a unique and entertaining voice in hollywood that I enjoy finding out more about just how you live and what goes on in casa de Kev. Wouldn’t mind her back for another episode, keep on rocking sir.

  62. Zach Says:

This is not the worst Smod ever, smod 44 takes the cake easily; don’t be a douche, Mr. Smith took the time to share his fathers day with all of us.

  63. will` Says:

    great Smodcast!

  64. Whipjacka Says:

It is funny, people are so quick to defend Keven when nobody is actually trashing him for the episode.

  65. Johnny Says:

Shame on u haters!!!!! loved the smodcast harley is so cute great way to spend fathers day, it’s not fathers day in Australia yet and u got me confused, thought I missed it.
Didnt think it but harley is actually funny, anyway great smod thank Harley for me and dont let anyone dis the smod.

  66. Spick-a-pedia Says:

Bryce, I wish you would stop fucking and makin’ kids. Great SMod, Kev.

    Bring back Walter!!

  67. James Says:

    Bryce is a tool. :-)

  68. The not so silent Bob Says:

The happening is the worst movie I have seen in two or three years, and I saw one missed call. I would love to hear Kevin’s take on it. I can honestly say based on the last three M Night pictures, this was my last one. Never again. If you haven’t seen it please don’t, if you have, and know where I can get my 1 1/2 hours back, not to mention my 20.50 for a pair of tickets I would appreciate it. The thrilling scenes were comical in parts and I can’t wait for Scary movie 6. Although the Wayen’s brothers might just show clips of the original, and I’ll laugh again.

  69. Megan Says:

While this was a very sweet moment with his daughter, I think it should’ve been left as that. I listened to all of it, and it was like talking to my little brother for about an hour.

BUT, being an adult podcast, it would’ve been nice to hear stories about Mos and Kev’s fathers if we’re doing a themed podcast.

Again, it’s great he has so much love for his kid, but not so great SModder.

  70. Rand Says:

I gained a ton of respect for Harley when she introduced her Dad at Roy Thomson Hall a couple of years back in front of a big crowd (especially to a kid) and I’m glad to see her getting involved in the Askewniverse quite nicely.

And to top it off Mosier now as the not-so-secret weapon of crunching ice into the mic at his disposal should things go awry.

  71. vigilantenumber9 Says:

Gosh, youre the best mr. smith. you are the funniest man alive. your movies are the best ever made by anyone ever. your blogs are the bloggiest. your views on not killing bugs should put you in the running for the Nobel(tm). 73. Piper Says:

I think this was the sweetest thing. Harley is a treat!

  74. Bryan Says:

Kevin, please stop mispronouncing DACHSHUND. I know you are trying to sound intelligent and are pronouncing it with what you think is the correct German pronunciation, but you’re mistaken. DACHSHUND is not spoken as DOCKSHUND, as you say it.

It is actually two distinct words. Dachs (meaning Badger), and Hund (meaning dog), pronounced hoond). Dachs Hund.

  75. Arngrim Says:

“Gosh, youre the best mr. smith. you are the funniest man alive. your movies are the best ever made by anyone ever. your blogs are the bloggiest. your views on not killing bugs should put you in the running for the Nobel(tm). I second that. But unlike the people who are giving him said electronic hand jobs, I cut & pasted a few neg. comments from here to show some backlash (my mistake, but I really meant no disrespect to Mr. Smith) and he banished me from the View Askew board for not liking Queen or Freddie Mercury. Is that a way to treat a fan who buys View ASkew merch, no, but then again, as I said before my mistake was quoting the negative people here. Such militant yes-men, the people on the VA mesage board are.

The moral? Watch your words, people. Because Kevin Smith and all his militant yes-men will come back to bite you.

    Peace out.

    -”Arngrim”

So I just synced my Zune with my computer today and I had plans to work on my house and listen to the newest smodcast which was already downloaded and synced. So when I synced my software and the computer, it removed my smodcast 54 because it was no longer on my computer because of download failures I guess. So I’ve restarted my computer and all of my programs, then I tried downloading the episode from this site and Itunes and my normal zune marketplace, none of which will work and keep failing or giving me error messages. Is there a problem on your end with the downloading sites right now?? Plus that really sux I was looking forward to working and listening to another cast. Keep up the good work at any rate.

  81. Son of a Darrell Eugene Says:

    vigilantenumber9,

So I find it funny that people expect posters on this thread to take them seriously that they are so upset and hateful towards Kevin and his fans. We are very sad individuals because we have admiration and respect for someone who entertains us, and then actually sends some respect back to us as well. The fact that you take the time to get online and post on this thread says to me that you in fact are the sad individual who wants to be heard and thrives for attention, negative or otherwise. So you come on here to throw stones at anyone who will give a you an ear to listen to your tripe. We will continue to listen to smodcasts, buy merch, and tickets to the films, and you will continue to do it as well just so you can come on here and piss and moan. I feel bad for even posting this comment because you will now believe that people actually listen or care about what you think. So I’ll leave you with this, use your wit you have about you since your so much better then everyone else and actually make your own film so we can see how great you are instead of spending all your time killing our day and kevin’s day with your nonsensical attitude. Oh and Arngrim, you know you did more then you say you did buddy. There is a reason why there is a “terms of agreement” when you sign up for the VA thread board. Not because the “yes men” will get you, but because that board should be for fans who would like to discuss a multitude of things intelligently and entertainingly for fun and not fear of threats and hateful comments. Your reasoning that you did nothing wrong and that Kevin has some sort of entourage mafia of “yes-men” is ridiculous and ignorant.

  82. Pillowpants 4 President Says:

    Bryce,
Two things you should think about before you go off on your rant.
1> These other people you mention in your comment that do podcast and put a lot of time into the presentation each week. Most of these people are probably unestablished and find the podcast to be a way of getting there entertainment out there to a larger audience. If they are established they may be doing it anyway and are just choosing to broadcast it by podcast and condensing the normal presentation, or they are news value casts which are scripted to a point.
2> When you make a comment like that you sound like an asshole. You sound like you DESERVE to be entertained by Kevin for free. Its free its his cast and he can do with what he feels, he wanted to share some time with his kid, now I know your disappointed but you gotta at least respect the guy for including his kid right. It was cute and entertaining for having an eight year old involved. Not too mention the moment this feels like a job to kevin or scott the smodcast will cease to exist so i say bravo do what you can do. So the next time you feel like ranting, think about how much of an ass you’ll sound like. Although you sound like you are a true fan and this was not meant in a harsh manner just to make you think like you wanted us all to think about your comment. So keep this in mind and for sure “You will not be the one who is the asshole!”
    Cheers!

  83. malcolm Says:

    I can’t download this! </3

    Fix it please Internet dudes.

  84. chuck Says:

A great smodcast for smodder’s day.
My only complaint: not enough dick and fart jokes.
And I missed Kevin’s usual 10-15 vivid descriptions of the last time he took a shit.

  85. Dheak Says:

I am a huge fan of SModcast and have listened to and enjoyed every single one of them. I was a huge fan of any commentary track that Kevin lends his voice to. I bought Donnie Darko based solely on the fact that Kevin did commentary.

This one was no exception, it was quite enjoyable for the most part. I didn’t mind Harley doing the entire thing so much, but the audio was unbalanced. Harley’s voice level was much louder than Kevin’s and got shrill at times. Other than that minor gripe, it was a great SModcast, hope to hear a new one later today.

  86. Sebastian Says:

I guess this is the Podcast Jen asked for in what was it… 21? The Schwalcast? The one that not necessarily would have to be made into a SModcast but Kevin should definitely do for Harley to have when she’s grown up and Kev maybe would be gone (can hardly imagine that, hopefully he’ll threefold his 37th).

So since this one was to be expected and therefor canon I still also have to express that it’s not really my cup o’ tea.

It’s like watching a happy couple. It gives me this “me too!” feeling after a certain amount of time and I hate to get jealous. I already have co-workers who have so effing cute kids I could punch them just for being so lucky and I am not.

Maybe you should look behind all the fat comic book guys saying “worst episode ever” here and maybe guess why they say it. Of course it is out of disappointment, for a lot of reasons.

This Podcast was like a fat guy buying a bunch of candy bars and up on unwrapping them finding carrot sticks. It’s all healthy and good and shit but still it leaves you with the fix you sought.

  87. Armin Says:

Bryan, since you’re somewhat obsessive compulsive in terms of the DACHSHUND I gotta assume you’re German, so forgive me if I’m wrong, but — who gives a shit about the correct proper german pronounciation? I’m Austrian and I don’t, so why exactly do you think people from non-german-speaking countries would? I bet you mispronounce the shit out of most Italian (or maybe Chinese) dishes, and I’m pretty sure that since you’re German, your English is probably lousy as hell as well, so get over it. You’re probably one of those who won’t watch Die Hard because of the phony Germans in it, aren’t you? ;)

Sorry, aber ich find’s einfach nur extrem peinlich wenn sich Deutsche über so einen unwichtigen Scheiss brüskieren. Lederhosen, Massbier, bayrische Blasmusik, Nazi-Witze … let the Americans have it, they need their stereotypes and clichés, just like we, as Europeans, need to be able to have ours. In fact, let’s have a shot at this - Americans are undereducated, gun-totin’, fat, stupid, analphabetical imperialists who believe that the world was created 4000 years ago by an invisible surveillance camera somewhere up in the sky and that therefor we must have co-existed with the Dinosaurs, maybe even rode them, hence “The Flintstones”. See? Important to understand how the world works, man!

  88. David Simmons Says:

I can’t download either, iTunes or web. Help!

  89. Hank Says:

    Hi there,
Is anyboday else having problems getting this? i’m also having trouble getting #51-53 too. i’ve not tried any of the others, as i already have them.

  90. Jenny Gambill Says:

mixed tapes took forever… i still have a couple.

    kudos technology!

this was the best SModcast!! Harley reminds me of my little girl.

  91. paul Says:

maybe all the bitchers should go out make a load of movies the do their own podcast and get who ever they want to come on,by the way it’s free and these guys do it in their own time, internet bitches worse than bitchty girls

  92. Sebastian Says:

It’s so nice to see so many people unable to distinguish constructive criticism from “bitching”.

Kevin isn’t the pope and this is no religion. This isn’t bitching, it’s telling it like it is. We didn’t really love this episode of an otherwise great Podcast. Hell I came here three weeks ago for the first time, got all the episodes and am now in the process of listening to them for the third time. It’s been absolute bliss. So what now? Is that kissing ass?

I mean Kevin is considered to be the most approachable Hollywood director of them all and you expect his peers to just stand there in awe and taketh what cometh as the body of christ or what?

Nobody said this episode was bad. Even bryce didn’t want to do that and I guess he just expressed his “god I have six kids of my own I want to listen to something that I can enjoy and usually that’s the Smodcast”-attitude in not too kind of a set of words and as soon as you say that you get bombarded with “it’s free shut up” replies.

This is the comment section for this episode. Where when not here should we leave or opinions about this?

If we only were to leave positive feedback it would say so somewhere don’t you think?

So why don’t all those people who think you shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth write a greeting card and send it to Kevin. I guess that’s what you think is what he wants. I honestly don’t think he wants to read bitching about people who “bitch” either.

Again I am also always happy for my friends who are totally in love and shit and it’s all so cute and everything but you know how it is… all those folks who have kids: congrats. I don’t. I’m alone, I tend to eat when I am feeling blue and I currently have neither a girlfriend nor a daughter and guess what: I think there’s a not so small portion of listeners to this podcast who share this situation and it’s especially nerve-wrecking when somebody who “has it all” (and I DON’T mean Kevin) to tell you to STFU and “enjoy” because, you know, we DIDN’T and we gave REASONS. And we don’t even have any demands. Well maybe we do like “bring back Mosier” but that’s hardly a demand when you look at what this thing is named after. And Smodderday is only once a year and nobody said that we “the critics” don’t think it’s ok to have one of these once a year.

    Seesh.

  93. Josh Says:

In SModcast 47 (I’m late on jumping on to this and am trying to listen to all of them as fast as I can) you mention your fascination with plumbing and say that if you pour a bucket of water into the toilet it just fills up. My suggestion is to try that… Like you’ll really try it… Point is: The toilet will, in fact, flush.

  94. blahblah Says:

    Sebastian,

The problem with comments sections on websites is that it seems to suggest to so many people that their comments and opinions are important to anyone besides the person posting.

I think what the “it’s free” people are really trying to say is, “This podcast is produced every week for no charge and without any advertising whatsoever. When you pay to see a movie or sit through 8 minutes of commercials during a 30 minute episode of TV, your opinion and criticism becomes somewhat valid due to the fact that you’ve invested either ticket fare or assumed patronage of the advertisers businesses. This podcast, however, is presented to you without asking you to invest anything at all. Therefore, your criticism means exactly nothing. If you don’t like it, go listen to one of the other podcasts that are created by busy filmmakers out of their workout rooms every week.”

Also, there’s probably a very real concern that if all these anonymous bitchers bitch loud enough, Kevin and Scott will decide it’s not worth all the hassle and give it up for good. And those of us that are appreciative of the almost weekly entertainment will be out of luck because a group of “my opinion is oh so important” naysayers ruined it for everyone else.

I guess my point it, if you don’t like it, shut up and wait 7 days until the next go round. Just because a comment section exists doesn’t mean anyone cares about your opinion. And that includes mine.

  95. Blahblah Says:

Also, in the interest of leaving a comment that no one cares about, I’m a single father of a soon-to-be 6 year-old girl. This podcast definitely made me think more carefully about how I interact with my daughter.

Over the past weekend, my daughter and I went swimming twice, grocery shopping, and spent a couple hours at the local laundromat. In typical 5-year old fashion, she didn’t stop speaking for more than 30 seconds at a time. Thanks to Kevin and Harley, I enjoyed this weekend more than most. So, thank you to Kevin and his adorable kid for helping a guy in Minnesota remember what’s so beautiful about that type of relationship.

And to Harley, way to go kid. Let us know when your band makes it big and I’ll be sure to add your first single to my next mix-tape.

Also, a word of warning to all the other parents out there… This morning, my daughter asked me about the constitution and I did my best to explain it to her. Unfortunately, I learned that explaining our first amendment right to free speech to a five year-old means that you’ll probably be called “doo-doo head” for the rest of the day. Needless to say, I skipped the right to bear arms thing in the interest of my own safety.

  96. Nic Says:

I really didnt here this week anyone actually talk about the bodies exhibit that Kev and Harley went to that exhibit really is a violation of human rights first most the bodies come from China were they dont even get the choose of what was done with there bodies after they died, the families didnt even get the option to bury their loved ones. Imagine if that was your wife or husband, child, or parent. The exhibit is constantly protested. The ways those bodies were treated in life and death far out weigh the benefits of the knowledge gained.

  97. Spick-a-pedia Says:

TIME FOR A NEW SMOD!! WOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO~~~~~

I can’t fuckin’ wait, I’m pissin’ my boxers and bitin’ my nails… SModcast is a drug and I am a junkie….!!!1!1!!one!!

  98. Chad Says:

    smodcast?

  99. notjojohnson Says:

Carlins passed long live the king ill unserstand if we have a week off.

  100. Jesse Says:

RIP George Carlin. You will be missed. It would be cool if Kev and Mos could provide some good stories and memories of their time with him on the set and in life in general.

  101. Zer00 Says:

    Hilarious@People who call us “bitchers”

  102. PancakeEater1 Says:

Sad to hear about Carlin passing. He was one funny Mother*****. One of the few to be on the same pedestal as Richard Pryor. Gonna miss his philosophically realistic analysis of life. Need some Carlin smod memorial stories.

  103. Peter J. Says:

At first, when I read the words . . . I didn’t comprehend them. I couldn’t connect the dots. “What??!!, I was just speaking about him with my mom the day before last.” Luckily, I got to see Carlin perform live. He was THE MASTER. This is VERY sad news indeed.

George was the kind of person, everybody felt that they knew. :-|

May God Bless & Keep You Sir George. @};- @};- @};-

  104. scott Says:

heres hoping theres some smod stories about him, he was perfection in jersey girl, which i think was his 1st serious acting role (think)
i would give some sentimental story about him but anyone who knows him would know he’d want us to fuck off

  105. The not so silent Bob Says:

Carlin was just a man, that is what he would want to be thought of as, not the comedic god that he was. If you understood what he was saying it was almost always about common sense. Think about why you do what you do and fuck-em if they can’t take a joke. He will be truly missed and in lou of Smod, I’m going to find some Carlin. Smoke’em if you gott’em.

  106. Gordon Brown Says:

    I LOVE PIE!!1

  107. TalkativeBob Says:

Carlin was not just a man, he was the man…Great stuff over the years, shocked when I found out.

  108. Spick-a-pedia Says:

    Where’s the new Smod….!? KEV C’MON ITS MONDAYYY…

  109. Sebastian Says:

    @Blahblah:

See - that’s just it. We’re not bitching. (ok maybe bryce was but the rest of us wasn’t). I mean all we said was that after a while we had to turn it off because it wasn’t our cup o’ tea. And seriously, I don’t _hate_ you for having a cute daughter but you can’t possibly understand the sheer amount of “me too” feeling you get after a while :-)

And like this “human rights” moron pointed out, we could’ve started criticizing Kevin for taking Harley to this “Körperwelten” exhibit, if we really wanted to behave like assholes ;-) Which we don’t. Because Kevin is displaying good parenting when he _TALKS_ with his kid bout it. That’s what so many people don’t get - it’s like with “This film is not rated yet”. All those people yelling for “bad” movies to be not given a rating for sex/violence et. cetera. IMHO only talk to each other but not their kids. It’s just awesome to see that Harley is totally ok with the display of dead people. I was in Vegas when it was there and the guy who makes these things comes from germany so I had plenty of occasions where I _could_ have gone and see his displays but I myself just can’t take it. Still I don’t yell for them to be taken down nor does it really interest me that the guy who made them only has a doctorate from China and that the donated bodies mostly come from there.

I mean it’s hilarious when you know that people in chinese coal mines are virtually digging with their hands that people care more about dead people from china than the actual living.

Again, I think the podcast was great for him, for Harley, for everyone who has kids and I guess for everyone who is currently totally happy and wants kids. But but “our” main concern is that if we don’t say that we actually turned it off after a while because our teeth hurt from all the cuteness it might seem that the audience (all of them) loved it so much that we want more soon. Which isn’t really the case :-)

  110. STUDIODYNAMO Says:

… uh were the kids in blackface, Kevin ?

  111. Marilyn Says:

    Kevin,

Absolutely loved this Smodcast! Harley Quinn is one of the sweetest, brightest kids I’ve heard. After working at a video store for way to long a while back, kids were apart of my disgruntling. I would have been glad instead of sad to watch customer’s kids if they’d been more like Harley.

Plus, you’re so involved in your kid’s life that it made my heart ache a little. You not only saw her school productions, you remember the songs she sang. Divorced, absent, deadbeat dads like mine need to take a page from your dad playbook!

    Take care and Godbless,

    -Marilyn

  112. R-Dog Says:

Just a big ups and moment of silence for George Carlin. May the 7 Words live long.

    R.

  113. Ned Smitty Says:

RIP Mr. Carlin. Sorely missed, but fondly remembered.

  114. Adam Says:

This is one of my favorite SModcasts, I was a little worried at first but it came out really nice and sweet. A child’s unique perspective is always worth a good listen.

  115. mags Says:

Remembering Carlin– I discovered Carlin about age seven when I went through my mom’s albums. Oak Ridge Boys, Willie Nelson, Julio Iglesias… and a guy doing odd poses, inside the cover, the same guy sitting on a toilet. I thought it was weird that my mom would have an album with a jacket like that, so I put the record on. Imagine the delight of my innocent, seven-year-old brain when I heard every bad word I’d ever imagined saying all in one record. I listened to the entire album straight through. Where the hell was my mom during that hour when my vocabulary was forever corrupted?
    RIP, George. Thanks for everything.

  116. Smodcast 54 “Smodder’s Day” | Gunderblog Says:

[...] just listened to Smodcast 54 “Smodder’s Day” and it is just CAB (Cute As a Button).  For Father’s Day, [...]

  117. EnragedPlatypus Says:

Christ, most of you should be smacked across the face. If ya haven’t realized that SModCast is something that Mosier and Kevin put together so they could have some fun. You should just be happy that they even take the time to record it for us. If Kevin wants to do a whole episode with his daughter so be it, it’s their creation and I doubt you idiots spewing on about how bored you were will change anything. Not to mention it was fathers day for God sake, he should be able to do what the hell he wants, especially on that day.

  118. Tsunark Says:

Kevin Smith is my bowl of jelly. Without him my life would be a big creamy mess.

  119. Brother 3 Says:

I completely understand the logic that Kevin Smith had when doing this cast but I couldn’t listen to it. I listen to Smodcast for childish yet intelligent vulgar comedy. If I want to listen to someone interacting with their child I’ll go visit my sister. Now, in Kevins defence….who gives a fuck what I say about the cast, who gives a fuck what anyone of us say about it….It’s his show so he calls the shots. I just can’t wait for the next Smodcast now because I am going through withdraw.

  120. Julian Says:

Ha. much props Kevin. i thought this was a pretty fun one.

  121. brian Says:

See what happens when you bitch and moan? You ungrateful heathens! Two good men give what little free time they have left in life to entertain us and not charge us anything and you douches need to feel compelled to bitch?? When kevin takes a moment to open the window into his life a little more and let his kid sit in… no bitching! It was cute and I would like to see some fluffed animals turned all inside out and what not!

10-1 odds says we gotta wait two weeks, maybe more, if they began to edit zak/miri- you all know when they wrapped the film it takes another 6 months to edit, right??

way to poke the bear you numb nuts!

  122. nicklas Says:

God forbid Kevin set aside ONE fucking special podcast to do with his daughter for father’s day. Maybe he cares more about his flesh and blood than impressing some goddamn fanboi(s). Was it the typical vulgarity and absurd stories as the other smodcasts? no, but it was an intimate and special moment he was sharing with the kid, and who are any of you to begrudge him?

For fuck’s sake. Some of you people I swear if you were in hell and someone gave you ice cream you’d complain that it didn’t have sprinkles.

  123. Smodfan47 Says:

I dunno, Brian. Kevin’s M/O in the past has been to cut scenes together as he goes. I wouldn’t be surprised if most of the editing work is already done, save for a little sound work and some potential clean-up. In fact, I’m not sure of the exact release date, but I think it’s less than six months away … end of October, according to IMDB.

I feel ya on the complainers, though. Free or not, criticism is one thing, but it takes a real dick to slam a guy’s kid. Funny thing, though … don’t see anybody doing that, really.

It kinda begs the question “Who’s doing more harm: the guy who’s bitching, or the guy who’s bitching about the people who supposedly bitch?”

I hate to say it, Brian, but that makes you wrong twice in one post. I’d even argue that you seem to be the “Malcom” of this group.

  124. Smodfan47 Says:

P.S. sorry about the double post. Clearly, I’m not perfect either.

  125. Bryce Says:

I know this is almost completely pointless, but I am just trying ease the minds of those who mis interpreted my first comment which I admit reading again does make me sound like a very large shithead. I love SModcast it’s in the top 3 of the 10 or 11 podcasts I listen to regularly and most a quite a few times(http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/2668/smodfastkt1.jpg)

I respect Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier as entertainers as well as kick-ass dudes just as much as my fellow SModcasters. I was trying to and failed miserably obviously to say that this just wasn’t what I was really wanting at the time. I mean it is his show he can do whatever he wants with whomever he wants, so what some dickhead (me) comes on and (slightly)bashes it. I wasn’t trying to say SModcast is now tainted and shitty from his daughter being on, or that this was the shittiest excuse of podcasting ever(which are not my feelings what so ever. I hope the show goes on for another year and many to follow that. Hope this cleared up some stuff and took me off a couple red lipsticked peoples hit list. (woah was that a shitty Billy Maddision ref?

Oh and I’m 15 turning 16 in a couple weeks, I was saying my family has 6 kids in it including me, me being the oldest. So I have 2 shotgun barrels full of fun with them 24/7, so hopefully this shed some light on why I didn’t particularly love this here ep, but blissfully awaiting 55!

  126. Chris Says:

Would really love to hear a smod all about George and how he influenced you guys or great stories from the movie sets

  127. Zer00 Says:

    *bitches*

  128. ashley Says:

this smodcast was soooo disappointing! i’m sorry i have to say this, but what were you thinking? have her on for a little while, but you can’t expect a child to create convo interesting to an adult audience for nearly an hour. She’s very cute and seems mature and intelligent, but it wasn’t a good idea. i so look forward to this podcast to get me through my study- here’s to the next one indeed.

  129. Peter J. Says:

Well, this day is definitely going down in ‘the book’ as “sucked”. We will miss you, Sir George.

Your work lives on, friend. Not only will you always be one of my personal heroes; you shall continue to be a hero to millions more.

Peace. And rest well . . . you brilliant motherfucker.

  130. Jay Schizoid Says:

“Follow the rules of the Book!, and you’ll get where you’re going in no time. Excuse me. (bends over to suck truck drivers dick)”

RIP Carlin! Heaven needs more pottymouths.

  131. moose Says:

Thank you Nicklas. For real people. Get over yourselves.

  132. Elizabeth Says:

Good on ya! I laughed harder at Harley’s “Oh Jennifer! Here’s a mix tape” bit than I did at all of Meat Curtains. It’s nice to get a break from Scott every once in a while. Following with the trend R.I.P. to the late very great George Carlin, my gateway pottymouth to View Askew.

  133. Geek Ray Vision Says:

You know whats more annoying then the complainers? The people complaining about the complainers.

  134. Clunker Says:

    Ken-

(As Always) Love the music!! I Got a big laugh out of your use of: “I’m Looking Through You”!!
BTW, here’s an unsolicited reply to ‘logruszed’ question re: the most commonly used band… I’m gonna to have to say (hands down) it’s The Beatles and solo Beatles who are most commonly used on the program!?! Can I get a witness?
Thanks for the laughs Guys!!! …and girl.

  135. shorty monter Says:

Everyone has a right to an opinion, and I will not tell you mine. Just look at the previous posts and ask yourselves this; who got across their point simply without resorting to insults and childish name calling, the people who disliked the previous smodcast, or the people who didn’t like others complaining about it?

Now ask yourselves; who has the moral high ground? Better question; who would Kev make time to listen to?

  136. Pyramiddle Says:

Way to go Kev, This was the sweetest SModcast ever. You’re obviously a dad who really cares about his daughter. This cast made me smile, alot. Thanks.

  137. Danny Says:

Missed a week this week? That’s a shame.

  138. bryanthefilmguy Says:

I thought this was a really nice SModcast. I smiled and laughed along with you guys. I think this is one of those priceless Father’s Day gifts that you will treasure forever. Thank you for sharing it with us.

  139. Spicapedia Says:

Wow, that was kinda gay ^^^^^^

  140. Juice Says:

Listened to the first 30 seconds and shut it off. Not my cup of tea. Its free…but so is everything else on the internet. Yes, I pirate music and movies…alot of people do. If you want people to listen to your smodcast you gotta bring the goods…ya…so what…I’m bitching, at least I’m being honest…next…

  141. Juice Says:

    terrible show…at least I’m honest…ass kissers

  142. Name Says:

    ^ Incredibly inappropriate.

  143. April B. Says:

I just got back from vacation. That was a nifty way to greet me back. Happy late fathers day Kevin. :] You’re daughter is quite funny, she’s very cute. I liked the song at the begininng as well, Mary Poppins is one of my favorite musicals. Haha. Hope to see you next week. :D

  144. April B. Says:

I liked it. :[ I thought it was cute. Did your mothers ever tell you if you didn’t have something nice to say than don’t say it at all?

  145. jontabars Says:

Kev, sorry to hear that some of these assholes are talkin shit about you and Harley. i personally enjoy you and scott a little more(theres more jokes and there more adult oriented), However, im not gonna slam you for doing something you want to do. You said it from the beginning, if it becomes a job and you have to cater to what everyone else wants, its not worth it. Keep doing smodcast the way you want. Its great.

And R.I.P. George Carlin. The last of the great comedians. He was on of the funniest men alive. He will deffinately be missed by many.

  146. Sebastian Says:

@jontabars: glad you said “hear” because most clearly you did not READ any of the comments.

Show me just ONE person on here who “talks shit”.

    Asshole.

  147. Taryn Says:

i thought this smodcast was very sweet, altough it wasn’t really my cup of tea. but i’d listen to kevin have a conversation with a tree an still love it.

please put up a new smodcast kev!

  148. snoogens Says:

when did this become like east coast west coast rappers. fighting over dumb shit. to be fair it does not say please leave a nice reply nor does it says must read all comments. also in the intrest of being fair my mother always told me if you do not have nice things to say do not say them at all. so… i will atempt to make peace and change the subject so how cool would it be for a three way smodcast of kevin scott and seth rogen yes? no? you tell me.

  149. Peter J. Says:

I want to hear Rogen and Malcolm rock the mic. Two canucks, and their voices sounds so much alike too. It’s almost eerie, in fact. Maybe throw Jay into that mix too after a lil’ bit.

Really, the bert thing, would be if they could bs together while playing twister.

Who knows, it could happen. :-D

  150. Spick-a-pedia Says:

    KEV&SCOTT&ROGEN!! awesome idea

  151. Bobaah Says:

a “Zack and Miri” special “ZModcast” would be awesome, although it would most definately be work, unless you didn’t talk about the film and just had the whole cast on the mic talkin shit.

  152. rhett Says:

i stumbled across this board cos i download smodcast from here instead of itunes. I have to say i’m kinda disturbed by the number of people who seem to consider themselves Kevin and Scott’s personal friends. Don’t kill yourselves, but i’m pretty sure they don’t give a flying f*#% about u beyond the standard entertainer/audience relationship. You all fight with each other and pretend you have Kevin on your side with comments like- ‘I’m pretty sure Kev would….’ and ‘what would Kev do?’
    Simultaneously hilarious and depressing.

  153. Greg Says:

    Kevin,

I appreciate you mixing it up with Harley for Father’s Day, but if YOU’RE yawning doing the SModcast (at least three times by my count), how do you think we will feel about it? Maybe this should have been left in the private collection…

Besides all that, thank you for doing SModcast, it really breaks up my work week.

    Greg

  154. vigilantenumber9 Says:

    some very interesting comebacks people.

    1. if you dont have something nice to say….. . are you serious? this is the best you can offer? so, unless i have something positive to say i cant offer up criticism? is this some orwell world you live in? are we not allowed to use our right to speak freely? you are a classic moron. your right and ability to speak should be taken away.

    2. i earlier stated that most people here act like they speak for kevin smith and are a bunch off human wet wipes. the reply i got was ‘well go make a movie and well criticize you’. again, you too are a moron. at no point did was i critical of kevin smith. i happen to enjoy his work, hence my listening to his smodcast. i merely take umbridge with the army that seems to be amassing that cannot see what sad pathetic creatures they are becoming. its okay to not like something from time to time. but i get the feeling that if kevin smith crapped in his hand flung it at your living room wall (or your parents living room wall) you would stand there and go ‘ genius kevin. snoogins’.

    3. ‘dont complain, its free’ my neighbor has a dog that craps alot. please give me your address so i can mail you some. its free.

    4. trying to engage in conversation that doesnt kiss someones ass isnt bitching. its how you grow as people. it doesnt make you a hater. im not a hater, im a buddhist. but i speak honestly. and i dont care if my opinion doesnt mean anything, in the end none of these do. its just a conversation. and its free.

  155. Bjorn Tusmod Says:

I enjoyed the smodcast but i have to say, i listen to it with my ipod on the train and man, i had to take off the earphones like 10 times. Harley was cute as hell and I applaud Kev for being such a presence in his daughters life, but her screaching killed my ears.

listened to the podcast a little late… BUT:

@Harley: Do not believe what your father says about “Dachshund” (or at least about the pronounciation of it) ;-)

Over here in Germany, no one calls a “Dachshund” a “Dachshund” anymore (it a VERY OLD word, you know?) - today everyone says just “Dackel” (prounounce it like the verb “to chuckle” with a “d” in the beginning - like “duckle”.

  161. Wayne Deadder Says:

  165. Some Guy Says:

I just re-listened the entire SModcast catalog and this one still holds up as the least enjoyable in the series. Kevin, I’m glad that you enjoy spending time with your kid but please don’t burden the rest of us with it, we don’t give a fuck. Maybe once she gets a bit older and can speak normal human language, sure, but until then keep these things to yourself.

Beyond that, I love SModcast and very much appreciate the fact that you do it at all.
