Malcolm, good points about the Dark Knight. But I am getting tired of people critiquing the batman voice. The guy is trying to conceal his identity, he is not going to sound normal, or else his cover may be blown.
Kevin, I see your point about how you feel the Dark Knight should have been nominated. But the achievements speak for themselves. How many people remember that Annie Hall won best picture in 1977 compared to how many people remember Star Wars came out in 1977?

Great Smodcast. WELL WELL WORTH THE EXTRA DAY’S WAIT.
Malcom hit the nail on the head with his critique of The Dark Knight. It was a good and entertaining flick, with some silly aspects to the story (i.e. Bales “bat-voice”)

A little off topic but…
They had a showing for Zack and Miri at my college the other day and everyone in the audience was eating it up. I was a little nervous that people might find it too dirty (I saw it a few times in the theatre) but all of my friends and everyone there were laughing hysterically. I even heard a dude say “What a bitch” in a dead serious tone at one scene, like he was really into it. I can’t believe that money didn’t bring in a shit load of bank.
I can’t wait to go buy it tomorrow.
Great episode of smodcast. I love the episodes with Malcolm because it really feels like two good friends just talking shit… it’s like sitting around with the dudes.

point #3 - ALWAYS grateful for other smods (my daughter has only been allowed listen to smoddersday and is a HUGE fan of both Smiths because of said smod)
point #4 - ‘A bit of a chat with…’ is a seriously good fix while waiting for the next smod if you like the more esoteric side of smod

Hey there, great smod.
I will agree with Malcom in the sense that the Batman voice was pretty bad. Although I do think christian bale did an awesome job as bruce wayne.
However, I think Aaron Eckhart’s performance as twoface was fantastic. I don’t think it was weak by any means.
And Heath Ledger, God bless him, gave the performance of a life time as the Joker. Pretty much made Jack Nickelson look like a bitch. And I liked Jack Nickelson as Joker but Heath’s performance blew him out of the water.
I agree with you completely Kevin that Dark Knight absolutely deserved a spot in Best picture.
O and I just wanted to say that Zack and Miri make a porno was fucking excellent. Your movie’s no matter how dirty always have a lot of heart Kevin and for that I truely respect you. I just ordered my copy of Zack and Miri, can’t wait till it comes in.

This was a terrific SMod. I like Malcolm. If I could pick one SModcast guest that should be the only guest when Mosier is gone, it would have to be Malcolm. Even when he says stupid shit he’s infinitely entertaining.
And yes, gillian, I am more than let down that there was no commentary on the DVD. That was the first thing I went for when I popped the DVD in, actually. It’s especially a letdown since we know at leas one exists, being the SModcast one they did that was supposed to be there for us to listen to while watching it in theaters.

Malcolm’s a loose cannon, but not in an evil way, and as shown with the Angelina thing, he’s fully capable of seeing the other side of things. Also, I like how when Mos is on, Kev’s the crazy one, but when Malc’s on, Kev can be the straight man. Nice change-up.
On the local tip, I doubt Kyle Rae would get huffy about Malcolm as a Boystown rep. No worse than the Steps sketches on Kids In the Hall.
Besides, Malc deserves props for helping out on the Kevin Smith Fest coming to Toronto next week at the Bloor Cinema! Woohoo!

Why has criticism become such a dirty word all of a sudden? As long as it’s worded in a polite way I don’t see the problem even if smodcast is free. Why should that have any bearing on our enjoyment of it? Hey Kevin,
Here are some pointers for tonight’s show in Toronto:
1) no paid to see ur wife or Jason’s come on stage and steal away the limited time you had snuggling you. we were all happy for them but after her introduction, she was no longer needed on stage.
2) Try not to harp on the 3 hour time limit
3) You seemed grateful for the fan who in these harsh economic times paid $70.00 a ticket to see you ( some of which paid that much to sit behind you).
But when there are 18 people waiting for you outside after the show (of which I was one) have the class to live up to your image and at least wave at them. You did not sign one autograph, take a picture OR say goodnight, you walked by. By the way I saw a handicapped woman at the front of the line, so that was really nice to simply walk past. It was very disappointing Kevin, perhaps you will not treat other fans that way tonight.
4)My four tickets cost about $300.00 ( taxes and service change) which we gladly paid for, but having seen the DVD’s and read your books, I expected more enteraining stories other than your discovery of weed. You never were one note before.
Take this as constructive criticism as we are thrilled you came to Toronto we just want you to live up to who you made us believe you were.
Good luck and remember to be good to Toronto as it has been very good to you.

I don’t care what ANYBODY says, Malcolm Ingram is an intelligent man. Sure he may not know when to stop talking once in a while, but his mind is a great mix of artistic integrity and common-man wild impulse. If I was growing up with Malcolm, he’d be THE kid to chill with. He has the balls to go against Dark Knight’s hype — that was my favorite film of 2008 but his criticisms made me THINK. Plus, he made Small Town Gay Bar, so what’s not to like about him?

I want to throw out that I don’t agree with the people who didn’t like recent SMODcasts. I think that the last dozen SMODcasts have been among the best. I like the smodkushed episode, and the related ones. I also like the variety of hosts. Kevin Smith has a pretty dominant personality in these, I think it works to have someone who doesn’t compete for the spotlight, but knows how to keep the conversation going. Perhaps they could arrange calls to/from fans (or experts) on particular subjects. That might make it more interesting for some.
SMODcast has increased my interest in DVD commentary tracks, which I never used to listen to. I also enjoy the occasional quip on American politics, and the remarks about different areas of the world (but throw a San Diegan some perspective).
I love listening to SMODcast while I am driving to work. It’s a great free show. Much like Kevin Smith’s movies, I like some episodes more than others, but I’d take any of them above radio, or even Sirius/XM radio. How about some of you motherfuckers spend less time destroying, and more creating?

And I loved the idea of the Joker burning all that cash,… other than that, I felt like everything was very flat, & everything felt like it all took place on a movie set.

If I were Kevin, I wouldn’t bother reading the stuff on here since it seems that some people feel that since they pay money for a ticket to see and possibly talk to Kevin then that means he should stick around as long as it takes to talk to and shake hands with everyone there. Great ‘cast I really enjoyed it.
Malc, you are incredible and entertaining I do not know any gay people in real life(i live in a small town in Ontario Canada. Owen sound) and you have enlightened my otherwise sheltered existence and you seem pretty cool. I think you are a good example of a human being, you’re not perfect but its our flaws that give us our humanity. before listening to these past smodcasts with you i would have wrongly assumed that me and a gay man would have nothing in common… you changed that sir and I applaud you.
Kevin I have been a fan of yours for a long time but never listened to the ‘cast but i recently got an Ipod and have since subscribed(i caught the last 3 or 4). Very funny stuff i watched the videos and proceeded to share them with some of my co-workers at the car dealership where I’m employed… it was disgusting fun.
As for the weed, well i don’t smoke weed or do drugs at all, but i will say my problem with most people that do it becomes the only thing they talk about which annoys me…
Kevin still has plenty to talk about its SUPER entertaining and funny… so stay golden ponyboy

I agree with Malc that Dark Knight didn’t deserve a best film Oscar nod. It was a good movie. The best part about that movie was watching the plans that Batman and Joker came up with. It was truly a superhero vs a super villain, with Harvey Dent as the combo hero/villain (but not super.) The problem with the film lies in the quiet moments between the action. I like that Alfred is a real character, but too much in that movie he was holding the audience’s hand and walking us through what we should be learning.
And yeah, Batman’s voice was stupid. Plus, Batman in the dark is scary, but Batman in brightly lit parking lots, etc. just makes him look goofy.

I’ve really got to disagree with Malcom about David Fincher. Fight Club is far from a great movie (meerly a good movie) but Fincher’s technical skill cannot be denied and he made (in my opinion) a masterpiece with Zodiac.
But, ending on a good note, the critique of The Dark Knight was measured and had many good points. Don’t feel bad about the haters, your episodes remain entertaining and hilarious… can’t wait until 2010 and the Weinstein Company’s release of “Malc”

Formerly Proud Canuck was talking out of his ass with his message for the last Smod. Malcolm is always one of my favorite guests and doesn’t make me ashamed as a Canadian at all.
Having several gay men in my circle of friends it’s nice to see a gay man being real and not one of those lovely stereotypes we’ve come to know and loathe on TV. I would say my gay friends are more like Malcolm than like Jack from “Will and Grace” in every day conversation.
The only thing that Malcolm has ever said that I would consider shameful is admitting to not being a hockey fan in Smod 14. It comes with the package if you’re Canadian, you like beer, you like poutine, you like hockey.

Wow, a suprising number of these posts are anti-Kevin… which is weird seeing as he’s in every SMod.
And I can’t believe how many people are still bitching about Malcolm. Kev said next SMod Mos is back, so just chill out and wait for it. I personally like the Malcolm SMods. The Malcolm-Kevin combo is basically how one of my gay friends talk. He lacks the capacity to stop himself from saying things (like Malcolm) and the things he says are down-right nasty sometimes (like Kevin). So these SMods are just great hahaha. Today, I received my passport in the mail. They got my birthdate wrong. Then I picked up my birth certificate that I had sent in with the application. Turns out my parents have been celebrating my birthday on the wrong day for 16 years. FML

Today, the girl I love and I went to visit my parents out of state for the first time. My father grinned and acknowledged that she was a “keeper”, at which she laughed and said we were “just friends”. I was going to propose to her next week. FML
seriously Kev, if you find this in any way hilarious, put it up on smodcast. i want to hear both of your reactions xD me and my friend have been laughing 3-4hours straight. you just can’t make that shit up xD
