In each GRAND DELUSIONS, we’ll be taking a look at unsolicited letters that were sent to various production companies, studios, and agents around Hollywood in the past few years. These are the ideas that slip through the cracks of the development world. Flashes of cinematic genius that spark, only to fizzle, then fade away into obscurity…Some are funny, some are scary, some are pitiful, some are incomprehensible—but they all share one quality: they’re REAL! Names and addresses have been removed in most cases to protect the innocent (and spare them the mockery and ridicule… ). Join us now for a trip into the bizarre world of Hollywood wannabes!
GRAND DELUSIONS is here with a surprise Thanksgiving treat for all our loyal readers: two more letters from everyone’s favorite, Tennessee Winston Luke! These are two of the earliest letters TWL started sending around town a few years ago. The first one proclaims the greatness of his script, THE WIND AND THE RAIN. I must admit, I’ve had the script sitting in a drawer for about 5 months now, and I still haven’t gotten around to reading it! As you’ll see, TWL only deals with “up scale” money and companies, so make sure your finances are in order before you contact him about this brilliant idea…
The second letter tells us about TWL’s other screenplay, LITTLE BABY JESUS. That may be my favorite title ever for a screenplay, because the story has absolutely nothing to do with Jesus, or a little baby. In fact, the lead character runs a nightclub. Go figure…See if you can spot the inconsistencies in what kind of budget he’s looking for, too.
Check back in two weeks for a new GRAND DELUSIONS!
