1) Platoon
Best Vietnam War movie ever made. I think most of you would agree with me on that.
2) The Breakfast Club
I never get tired of this movie. "Mone really pumps my nads..."
3) There's Something About Mary
The ultimate comedy. If you haven't seen this classic already go rent it. Ben Stiller is a [censored] genius, and Cameron Diaz is a hotty.
4) Tommy Boy
Spade and Farley. No questions.
5) The Shining
Classic horror from the master of it. YOu can't [censored] with a good ole' Stephin King tale.
ok what's your top five?

Just 5? That's a tough one... I'll just say these are in my top 5 in no particular order.
Shawshank Redemption - Best Stephen King adaptation .... ever.
Dogma - The classic of classic KS
The Matrix - Yea so what if I am a big Matrix whore!
Halloween (Pt. I) - Best Horror Movie I've seen.
Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail - Nothing comes close to this.

Top 5 ??? what are you nuts??? i'd have trouble getting down to a top 20!!!!
anyways here's my go... (I feel a bit like John Cusack in High fidelity - changing my top 5 a billion times!!)
Should probably state that the 80s pretty much holds most of my faves
1. Breakfast Club - Ultimate Classic - Love Judd!
2. Ferris Buellers Day Off - It doesn't get better than this - ok maybe this should be number 1.... hmmm ok these are now not in any particular order!! "I could be the walrus - it still wouldnt change the fact that I don't own a car"
3. Stand By Me - I can watch this any time - its funny, its sad, its uplifting and a downer...
4. Star Wars - (all inclusive) Especially the original trilogy - love that there's no cgi!
5. Back to the Future Trilogy, Sleepless in Seattle, A Life Less Ordinary, Dogma, Mallrats, Contact, Moulin Rouge, LOTR .... ok YES I CHEATED - but a top 5 - it can't be done!! /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

I really think that mine are self-explanatory:
Moulin Rouge
A River Runs Through It
Star Wars (all of them!)
The Color Purple
and Back to the Future
I have hundreds more "favorite movies" though.

It's tough to pick 5, man, expecially with all the different genres out there, but here's my $.02.......
(in no particular order)
The Big Lebowsi (find me a funnier movie, I dare ya)
The Natural (still gives me chills when those lights start exploding)
Braveheart (modern "epic" moviemaking and bloody, too!)
Starship Troopers (ya gotta love Verhoeven's sexy/violent style)
Back to the Future (used to watch it every day after school for like 5 years)
I could probably think for a while and come up with at least 50 more movies that belong on this list, but....we all gotta work, right?

2. The Crow - Brandon Lee was awesome.
3. Buckaroom Banzai - The theme song. Natch.
4. Princess Bride - "I'm not left-handed either!"
5. The Matrix - Lobby shoot out with Propellerheads playing in the background? I'm in.

1: back to the future trilogy, i've grown up loving this film, and I only just found out that crispin glover didn't play george in part ii or iii and they had to get a double in and some prosthetics.
2: The wedding singer. Great for when I feel rejected by women, Robbie behaves exactly as I do.
3: Something about mary: I watched this and had the biggest crush on cameron for about 2 weeks, anyway its funny, the jokes never grow thin, and ee evans is just brilliant as tucker, no cast member tends to steal except maybe the dog.
4: Stand by me: I like it, reminds me of the wonder years except it came out before, kids act great.
5. Leon: Hey the hero's french, but he has morals so we like him, and gary oldman just shines as the overzealous Bad guy, how typical of he. And young natalie portman as the pre-teen heroine training to kill him, Just excellent.

1. Blues Brothers -seen it more than any other movie, have it tattooed on my arm, and once broke up with a girl because she thought it starred Steve Martin and Chevy Chase. Great music, car chases, comedy, everything. Love every second, every shot.
2. Ghostbusters - made me want to be a filmmaker, as well as inspired my obsession with the supernatural. Funny as hell, great characters, well conceived and plotted throughout, amazingly detailed in the minuteae
3. Heavenly Creatures - Some of the most brilliant performances ever, amazingly recreated, and surprisingly sympathetic character study of historically unsympathetic people
4. Die Hard - the action movie of all action movies. It redefined the genre, never dumbed it down, and hasn't aged a day. Watch it every Christmas
5. Bridge on the River Kwai - A classic. You can follow the moral justifications of every character, right or wrong, and can sympathise with even the worst of them.

I will just pick 5 of my favorite movies (and not in any specific order):
A River Runs Through It - Because it has gorgeous cinematography, is extremely well acted and has a great story. It is close to being the perfect movie.
Moulin Rouge - Superb visuals (visuals on crack) and an original way to use old music. Plus, the actors are all working hard to make the movie fun! Brilliant. Chicago is junk compared to this movie (ok... so it is not junk).
Citizen Kane - The perfect movie. Everything about it screams "GENIUS" and it was made over 60 years ago.
Lawrence of Arabia - An action, adventure, drama that has awesome battles, great acting and a solid script. To think, they did all of that without blue-screen. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
The Usual Suspects - If you don't know why this movie is awesome then you haven't seen it or you are Roger Ebert.
Of course I could have included 4 of the Star Wars movies and FOTR too! /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

I could list the ones you all have covered already (LOTR, Star Wars, anything Smith) but I will pick from ones that aren't already on here.
1. Out of Sight - beautiful to watch, best filming of a love scene ever, before JLoFleck got too annoying to watch
2. Primal Fear - Ed Norton is brilliant in this one, if you haven't seen it, rent it.
3. American Beauty - I am not sure why I love this movie so much, but it kills me on so many different levels.
4. Se7en - the first movie to truly scare the crap out of me
5. Pride and Prejudice - the six hour version...I am a sucker for Colin Firth

1) Dogma and Star Wars a new hope ex aequo
2) Back from the Future and Mr Smith goes to Washington
3) Indiana Jones and the last Crusade, Casablanca
4) Harry Potter movies and LOTR trilogy
5) Some like it hot and Good Will Hunting
Abyss, The mummy, The Tenth Commandments, Jaws, Chasing Amy, Legend of Bagger Vance, Good morning Vietnam, Immortal Beloved...
Sorry I can't give only 5 /forums/images/icons/smile.gif /forums/images/icons/grin.gif

1. Jerry Maguire
The simgle tightest, best-written, most emotionally satisfying film I've ever seen. Plus I can watch it over and over again and never get tired of it.
2. Braveheart
Like I need to say why this is a great film.
3. Adaptation
Genius, genius, genius, genius, genius.
4. Almost Famous (or Untitled)
Can you tell I love Cameron Crowe? Who doesn't?
5. Chicago
Yeah, yeah, best picture, etc. I loved Moulin Rouge, but this was more cohesive and focused.

1. Fight Club - No movie ever caused me to question the way in which I lived in the world on such a basic level and the exposition of two non-solutions (secularism and nihilism) forces you to create origional answers.
2. Evil Dead - There have some great horror movies, some great action movie, and some great comedies, but this fills all three roles surperbly.
3.The Martix - Groundbreaking on every level, this has been the only work of art to bring philosophy to the masses on any scale.
4. Space Balls - seen it countless times, and I'm still not tired of it, truely a spoof with a life of its own.
5. The Empire Strikes Back - I'm not gonna cop out and say the whole series. As estblished in Clerks, the down note of this installment more accurately conveys the pathos of real life in a fantastic scifi world.

I neglected doing this, because everytime I see the list I'll remember another movie that should've been there.
1. The Shawshank Redemption
-It's the only movie that has a little of everything that makes movies great, yet it stays in the confines of reality.
2. Rainman
-playing a mentally handicapped person is usually a shoe-in for an Oscar, but Hoffman really made this movie. It's also the reason I don't mind Tom Cruise.
3. Star Wars (77)
-The symphonic score, grand scale, special effects, and Cantina scene set the standard for all future sci-fi/adventure.
4. Monty Python and the Holy Grail
-All of the Monty Python movies and sketches have had a great influence on my sense of humor, but this is their comedy that will always be remembered (primarily because it doesn't satirize British Government).
5. Back to the Future, Part I
-Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox have great chemistry with each other and every other character in the only movie I can comfortably call a Sci-Fi Comedy.

I did seven. So sue me.
1. GHOSTBUSTERS
Scary, a cool plot, and my favorite comedic performance of all time. Bill Murray rules.
2. WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER
No movie has ever made me laugh harder.
3. CITY OF LOST CHILDREN
Stunningly beautiful, great story, great visuals, great acting.
4. THE MUPPET MOVIE
The Muppets out and about in the real world. It's the origin of my childhood (and, sure, okay, adulthood) heroes. And great music.
5. MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL and KIDS IN THE HALL: BRAIN CANDY
I can watch them over and over again, and each time I laugh out loud.
7. AMERICAN MOVIE
My favorite documentary ever. You laugh at them at first, but by the end, you root for them to get everything they want. But you still kinda laugh at them.

1. Fight Club - Movie to end most movies for me. Everything is great about it. One of those movies when even if you don't feel like watching it anymore, you can't stop, and watch it to the end.
2. Saving Private Ryan - Nobody thinks this belongs in the top 5? Even though it isn't the most realistic WW2 film out there.. this one has definently been the best one I've seen. This movie is a great movie to watch. The only problem is at the 3 hour mark rewatching it is pretty tough. More of a "once every few months" movie.
3. The Matrix - Come on, bullet time folks. Bullet time.
4. Aliens - Holy crap is this movie great. Definently the best Sci-Fi movie I've ever seen. I had almost all of the toys, and this has been the movie I have watched the most(at least 20 or more times to date).
5. Half Baked - Great comedy. Simple as that.
Of course this list is a little off. Picking the top 5 movies is pretty much picking the top 5 movies of the week. Everytime I answer one of these things I feel like I should have added another movie. If there were a top 10 you would definently see A Clockwork Orange, Ocean's Eleven, LoTR movies, BASEketball, The Shining, and hell.. dozens of other movies. Yes, top 5 is impossible.. but I think my list is as close as I can get to a stable one. Kevin Smith flicks would take up the top 5 if I included them.. so I just leave them seperated from the rest.

Well, I guess here is as good a place to start as any...
In no particular order:
1.) "Talk Radio" - What can I say? I love me some Eric Bogosian. This movie flopped hard and no one remembers it, Oliver Stone directing or not, but it's gotta be one of my favorites. Eric Bogosian as a Stern-ian shock jock who self-destructs on air. Awesome.
2.) "Fletch" - Because it's "Fletch" and that's enough.
3.) "The Happiness Of The Katakuris" - This movie is beyond belief. Japanese horror/comedy/musical directed by Takashi Miike. (Look for his stuff on Amazon.com if you're not familiar.) It knocked me flat on my ass.
4.) "Airplane!" - Self-explainitory.
5.) "Tree's Lounge" - Steve Buschemi as an alcoholic barfly = fun, fun, fun.

Oh Boy....
I'll try and come up with some of my faves that ahven't already been mentioned:
1. Taxi (1998, writ Luc Besson) It's an action comedy about a taxi driver whose dream is to drive in Formula 1...he teams up with an inept cop to foil robberies in a turbocharged Peugeot...and.....it's way better than it sounds.
2. Tilsammans/Together (2000, Lukas Moodyson) 1970's comedy about a hippy commune in Sweden....one of my favourite sweet, nice comedies.....with some cool humour...
3. Heathers (1989, Michael lehmann) Probably the best 80's teen film. Black humour, Winona Ryder, and probably the only time Christian Slater was really cool.
4. Ging chaat goo si/ Police Story (1985, Jackie Chan) Probably the finest ever Jackie Chan film, and essential viewing.
5 Heat (1995 michael mann) Loved by some, slated by others. With pacino, De Niro, Kilmer, Voight, Sizemore, Natalie Portman, Ashley Judd......it was always going to be aimed as an epic, and the slower pace and build up maybe alientated a lot of people.
Not me though.....great build-up, with some tremendous pay-offs, and the gun-fights are awesome (apparently co-ordianted by Gulf War 1 SAS veteran andy mcnabb)
There's loads more I could mention: crouching tiger, la haine, the italian job, etc, etc.....but I won't /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

1. Field of Dreams - Every time I see the last scene with Kevin Costner playing catch with his dead father, I get teary-eyed. Seriously.
2. Bull Durham - Kevin Costner + Baseball = Greatness. Keving Costner - baseball = Crud. (Although 13 days was pretty decent).
3. Gone with the Wind - What a 3 hour movie should be.
4. The Empire Strikes Back - I love it when the bad guys win.
5. Castaway - I was waiting for him to screw the volleyball. THAT would have been realism.

Okay, I don't know if I can do an all-time list. I'd like to do my favorite movies from a list of eras, however I know I'd miss something and something wouldn't get represented. So, aside from the number one spot there is no particular order.
1. Chasing Amy--Honestly, if I hadn't seen Chasing Amy I wouldn't be here. Saw it in 1997 and I identified with it on so many levels that it is still a very personal movie for me.
Now, in no order
Citizen Kane--Once again, RB and I agree and that never happens. Perfect movie. You nailed it earlier, RB
Charade--As long as we're talking perfect movies, Charade is there as well. Different from spy movies at the time where Bond girls were as nameless as a Motley Cru groupie, this stars a women (Audre Hepburn, what a woman indeed). Cary Grant's last role as a leading man and he hits it on the head.
Harvey--Talk all you want about Tom Hanks. Jimmy Stewart is THE American Actor. His monologue in the alley outside the bar gives me shivers. That's freakin' Acting. And do you know how many Looney Tunes jokes came from that movie? It affects us today and most of us don't know it.
Monty Python's Life of Brian--It's their first REAL movie. Holy Grail just seems too haphazard for me. And Brian is a biting look at inconoclasm (I think that's the right word) in any era.
Damn, that was five already. I'll give honorable mention to Stand By Me and SLC Punk. The former because any time there is a child-coming-of-age movie (i.e. Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys, Igby Goes Down), I compare it to this. The latter, because I couldn't find it on Tape, so I bought a DVD player just for it. And I used to be all punk rock.
Man I feel hampered with just five.

2) fight club, you cant beat a predictible ending, to blokes betting the crap out of each other and a fat mans brains blown out

oh, I know. I just had to rib you. It's a good movie and all, but Opie just rubs me the wrong way with everything he does.
These aren't THE top five, but they are some of my favorites.
Fight Club- the whole thing was just twisted. Also the best commentary (aside from Dogma, but I don't want to come off as a kiss-ass fan-boy.)
Empire Strikes Back- "No, I am your father..." was the biggest revelation in my life up to that point (I was seven)
Snatch- the editing, the accents, the music... just plain cool. (BTW, What the hell happened to Guy Ritchie?!?! Oh, yeah... Madonna...)
Apocalypse Now. I saw it the first time while in a VERY altered state and I haven't been the same since. It's more of a nostalgia thing... ah, memories.
The Thing. Classic.

Royal Tenerbaums/ Rushmore - director Wes Anderson gets no respect, if u haven't seen these movies dont walk, run quickly to ur local movie store and get um. Both movies have the unique humor expressed through the brilliant mind of anderson and a little of owen wilson
Indiana Jones Trilogy - Harrison Ford is just amazing in these movies. No single man has carried a trilogy better singled-handedly
Animal House - Bulushi is a wonder in this movie. Even though he is not even the main character in the movie the screen stops everytime he comes on
Almost Famous - Name a better music based movie, I dare u
Adaptation - Wow...thats the only way I can describe that movie...theres no other way

I guess I should throw my two cents in. You're all dying to know I'm sure.
Escape From New York- Vintage Carpenter. He's my favorite director. Russell I believe is the ultimate bad-ass in this movie.
True Romance- Any comic geek who hasn't seen this movie should run and rent it. The Walken/Hopper scene is one of the greatest things ever commited to celluloid. Possibly Tarantino's most personal film, despite the fact that Tony Scott directed it.
Road Warrior- This is how action should be done.
Aliens- Not only a classic science fiction flick, but a classic war movie as well. James Cameron should've gotten the Oscar for this one.
Near Dark- Just for the bar scene.
How's that for a list?

1. Requiem For A Dream : Great film, original, the way the director went about making it is beautiful.
2. Donnie Darko : Such an amazing film, leaves people wondering, but of course, you can find out wtf was going on in the film.

Just five is tough, this list changes pretty much every day
but here goes...
A Matter of Life and Death - Amazing design and special effects considering when it was made, plus it's funny, romantic, philosophical, inventive. And David Niven rocks
/forums/images/icons/cool.gif
Annie Hall - Makes me laugh every time I watch it, and also marvel at it's incredibly complex structure.
Ghostbusters - Childhood favourite, I'll never forget how bad I jumped at the ghost in the library. Bill Murray brings the laughs, big time.
Miller's Crossing - Coens + Gangsters = Masterpiece.
Brain Dead (Dead Alive) - Fun for all the family, PJ's pre-rings Zombie comedy never fails to delight. Or sicken depending on your tastes.

The Breakfast Club - Well, just because...The rest are some of my favorites that haven't been mentioned. 2. A Christmas Story - "You'll shoot your eye out!" It shows Christmas through the eyes of a kid and covers all the bases so well. 3. The Commitments - The story of the the hardest working band in Dublin. So real and funny as hell. I've seen them play live and they rocked. 4. My Chauffeur - An overlooked 80's comedy. Deborah Foreman was so good in this. Also had a great cameo appearance by Penn and Teller. 5. Repo Man - Strangeness abounds as the government and every repo man in L.A. seek a '64 Chevy Malibu with something out of this world in the trunk. Great punk soundtrack and a feel you don't often get outside of a Gilliam film.

Everyone talks about not being able to list just five. These are just some of the films that I love.
1) The Spirit of the Wind. 1979 It's about an Alaska Native Dog Musher that overcame alot of obstacles to win the Iditarad, a 1,000 mile dogsled race. Look it up on IMDB.com
2) Lonestar.
3) Blazing Saddles.
4) Little Shop of Horrors.
5) Smilla's Sense of Snow.
I could name more like everyone else, but I'll just say that I look for films that deal with Indigenous peoples issues. And of course cool flicks like Escape from New York, though not escape from L.A.

In order: 1 beings all time favorite and well you get it:
5. Pulp Fiction
It's got a great cast and the idea of putting in nonlinear form is great.
4. Back To The Future Trilogy
Yes it is 3 movies but you can consider it one big movie. It's just a great movie.
3.One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
There really isn't much to say, the movie says it all. Jack Nicholson's greatest movie ever.
2. Clerks
How could you not find a top five list of movies on Movie Poop Shoot.com without seeing a Kevin Smith Movie on the list.
1. Reservior Dogs
The greatest movie ever made. Quentin Tarintino is the greatest director ever!!

You kid about the Muppets?!? True confessions: I was in a NY record store the day it got rereleased, and was pretending not to watch it as I browsed the aisles. There was a cute girl working, but hardly anyone else there, so I was being macho. Then they went their separate ways, stifled it. Finally, Kermit and Piggy got married and I got misty, so I looked down at some albums. The girl working, about three feet away, said "It's okay..." looked up to see her eyes completely watery, "...gets me every time too." The Muppets Take Manhattan...and my heart.
And now I prepare to be mocked mecilessly.

Tough one this they change alot but you always come back to the same ones eventually?
So at the Moment:
1. Donnie Darko ( outstanding writing and acting )
2. Battle Royale ( gutsy and raw, and takeshi kitano )
3. Room for a Romeo Brass ( just an excellent piece of filmaking , writing, directio and acting )
4. MASH - the movie - Robert Altman's finest work
5. Jackass - some light relief and a guy sticking a toy car up his bútt is just what you need after a hard week at work.
I'm always surprised that Citizen Kane always does so well in these opinion polls, i certainly enjoyed it but i do feel that it is almost a mandatory choice rather than a film you go back to over and over - but hey whatever knocks your head back, hell some people like Stallone's get carter remake ( why i don't know )

3. Daredevil: Just perfect
2. Ghosts Of Mars: great Sci-Fi flick
1. Enter The Dragon: Bruce Lee kicks the ass of any other fighter!
Least favorite 5...
5. Bloodsport 2: While Daniel Bernhardt was great in the Mortal Kombat Conquest series, He was not a good fill-in for Van-Damme.
4. Mortal Kombat: Annihilation: No way were those special effects anything I could remotely call average!
3. Austin Powers: Goldmember: NOT FUNNY! RETARDED!
2. Joe Somebody: Weak.
1. 8 MILE!!! Eminem is gay and so was his movie. No good acting, no good ANYTHING! I hope he kills himself soon. One less idiot on the streets.

I loved Full Frontal, but I a) work in the movie industry (sort-of) and b) am a big gossip and so I loved all the inside jokes. I do know that I'm in the minority as most people either haven't seen it or hate it. It's sort of J&SBSB around the edges, only not as funny.
