View Full Version : I hate Casper Van Dien

This guy couldn't act his way out of a corner. He's worse than Freddie Prinze Jr!

I'm confused. Why would he have to act out of a corner? Couldn't he just walk out of one? And why would he be in a corner in the first place, was he bad?

I am often amused by what some people say is bad acting... or who they say is a bad actor. Like, the people who (for whatever reason) hate Titanic, say that DiCaprio is a bad actor. Why? Because they don't like Titanic. No other reason.

Or the people who say that that Neo fellow is a bad actor... why? No clue. I actually think he does a good job in most of his movies that have nothing to do with vampires.

Bad actors are people who go on SNL, who have never acted before, and sound like they are reading from the card. Acting is as much about the eyes, face, and body movements as it is in the voice. A bad actor can't put all his parts together to make the audience believe that he or she is the character. A bad actor is someone who makes you think he is playing himself and not the character.

You know, Al Pacino. ;)

say that DiCaprio is a bad actor. People hate him because they can't stand the fact that someone so good looking can also be very talented. At least, that's why I hate him.

I think anyone who says Jack is a bad actor needs to see Aviator or Gilbert Grape. Leo is a powerful actor, and his looks are just a bonus feature. He is VERY good at what he does.

I don't think he's good looking, but I do think he's a good actor. He had me fooled in Gilbert Grape.

So they are jealous and pathetic?I can't speak for everyone else but in my case that's true.

No, I've had a good time making fun of DiCaprio in the past for various reasons but he's proven himself to be a very good actor. The fact that he's in a movie doesn't ruin it for me like it might for some people.

I used to hate him because he took Ewan's role in The Beach. Then I realized that The Beach was destined to disappoint me regardless.

Leonardo is a great actor. Just because he is cute, sexy, has a nice ass doesn't mean I can't see the quality of his work.

I love him in 'Catch Me If You Can' and he was wonderful in a movie called 'Total Eclipse.'

Well, that all depends. Was he a fan of the biting social and political satire implicit in the subtext of the film, or just into seeing bare boobies and giant bugs go ka-blooey? If it was the former there was no way you could have know. If it was the latter... yeah.

Um okay, so what if he's not a good actor, he seems to get alot of work. I've seen Starship Troopers. I liked it. (no accounting for taste, obviously!) Of course, how many of those other movies have you seen? I had barely even heard of any of them. He's not in the A list movies. Why all the hate? Are you a rival actor, and he keeps beating you out of "choice" roles? Life sucks. Wear a helmet!

You DO have to respect a movie that was so bad that when they did the SE DVD, they added the following:

Lap-dance tutorial featuring the world-famous girls of Scores
A Showgirls Diary: storyboard-to-screen featurette
Pop-up trivia track
Original theatrical trailer
Set of Showgirls shot glasses
"Pin the Pasties on the Showgirl" game with pasties and blindfold
Deck of Showgirls playing cards
Six photo cards with party games

Now that's entertainment...

I thought that Starship Troopers was great satire... people who take it as just another sci-fi movie really do it a disservice. I think that if you want to mock something then at least be creative about it. While I disagree with the man's politics, I think ST is an example of how to do it right, while F911 is an example of how to do it way wrong.

You are completely retarded. You liked Starship Troopers? This explains the bar you set for movies, was there a big budget sci-fi movie that you didn't like?

ST was a better political satire? Are you just a lump a meat with eyes? Do you eat your own poop and/or vomit? Next you're going to say ROTS was a great political satire. Not a movie exposing a president (F911), which the public STILL voted for. No wonder the world hates America.

Interesting you mention ROTS being political satire. I still haven't seen it, but from what I understand there are a few parts that could be construed as allusions to a certain current political figure. Doesn't Anakin say at one point, "You're either with me or against me." or something to that effect?

Also, if you're too dense to see that Starship Troopers was a blatant satire, well, RB's opinion of you is correct. You are indeed a little slow.

Revenge is less of a satire and more of a reflection of history. Those who think it is a jab at Bush are short sighted. Also, Anakin says "If you are not with me, then you are my enemy." That is pretty much what anyone in his position might say and has been used in different ways throughout history. So, you can read into it what you want but Lucas was writing this story long before 2001.

Good question. DJ, care to answer?

And what was the name of that cartoon anyway?

I think that was part of Looney Toons, but I'm googling is as we speak. If I come up with the name, I'll let you know.

EDIT: You're not thinking of Two Stupid Dogs, are you? I'm thinking of one that's much older than that...

Nope. Not Two Stupid Dogs. I'm wayyy too old for that one! I think you're right and it was Looney Tunes. I'm thinking of the older one too. The big dog was a bulldog, I think. And the small one... for some reason a chihuahua comes to mind, but I know it wasn't a chihuahua. If you find out I'll be really grateful.

I actually know I'll bolt upright in the middle of a deep sleep and remember it. It's been happening a lot. I attribute it to advancing age, lol.

From what I could find at citizenlunchbox.com, what we're thinking of is from a looney toons cartoon. The little dogs name is Chester, and he's always bouncing around Spike, the bulldog who wears a bowler.

EDIT: They appeared in only two toons, one was "Tree for Two" and the other was "Dr. Jerkyl's Hide".

It would of been a question if it included a question mark at the end. Without one, it simply contains a statement, not requiring an answer.

Way to argue semantics, bub. Actually, the way in which it was phrased was, in fact, a question. Had she written "Why is Darth Jaundi doing a bad Chester impression all over the boards" and not used a question mark, it would not have been a question. But, because she typed "I would like to know why....", it is a statement that can be answered just like a a question.

So far I've just been in duck and cover mode, but I must put in my two cents.

When they train teachers to deal with problem students, you learn a technique called extinction. If a kid is mouthing off, you completely and totally ignore him -- do not respond in any way under any circumstances. If you do this long enough, the kid will get bored and stop. If you answer, in any form at all, you just reinforce the behavior and it continues and usually escalates.

I say we try it.

I seriously hope you are joking. The United States of America is very depended upon Canada and vice versa. they are each others largest trade partner, each economy is directly dependant on the other. Canada has the largest amount of natural resources in the world. How, by any means is Canada insignificant to the world?

How dare you bad mouth the country that my grandfathers and ancestors fought and died to protect. Not only do you insult me, every Canadian, my country but the honor and memories of those brave young men and women that suffered, bled and slaved to make this one of the greatest places on Gods' green earth.

Uh, yea, it was a joke. Some people insult the US too. We've had an abundance of Canadians and people from other countries come here and bash the US. This particular moron was just pissing everyone off in general and RB went after his Canadianess.

Personally, I am a fan of Canadian music. Moxy Fruvious, Arrogant Worms and the comedy troope Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie. But I still tease and joke with my Canadian friends with "I thought I smelled maple" or "can you throw on your skates and get me ...." Not to mention the fact that Canada has three subs and 2 of them are in the big mall. Also, the South Park movie is hysterical. I've been doing TV/radio for eight years now. Everything from master control, to reporting, to photog, to editor. It gets monotonous. I just need a breath of fresh air.

I hope you find a career change that you will love doing, no matter how many extra hours you put in.

I've had this idea for a novel in my head for nearly five years. Every detail of every character- I've even drawn maps and such. I've got my synopsis together and a sample chapter. Figured I might look around for an agent and see what happens. I think it'd make one hell of a comic book/graphic novel but I don't have the patience to draw the damn thing- demons and cowboys and "ooooh, Navy Seals!" stretching across multiple dimensions and multiple times throughout history... It's very involved. Either way, if I don't get it out of my head, I'm gong to go nuts, which would just compound the frustration I feel from my job. Although, I feel like I earned my paycheck last night. It feels good to be the go-to guy, but the feeling won't last.

I'm just rambling now.
