As the thread says, I'll get the ball rolling..
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Well, i disagree with that pick, as i think the original still stands tall on its own. I just don't understand why a classic film needs to be remade, whether it be Willie Wonka, The Shining, Psycho, Planet of the Apes or whatever. The remake almost never makes any quality additions to the original. That said i would like to see them finally make the sequel, "Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator."
As for a remake, i would like to see "Walt Disney's Black Hole" redone. With todays special effects, i think it could be decent movie. Either that or "the Cat from Outer Space."

No movies should be remade, reshot in my opinion.
Look at Burton's version of planet of the apes....Blah!
Now Peter Jackson wants to do King Kong, How many times is this monkey flick going to be done! I like monkeys and all, I mean look at monkey man for instance... But Kong again!?

Actually very good points from the pair of you. I still would like to see a remake just for the point of spilling out the sequal book, take away the songs except the oompa lumpa song because no one sings in anything but disney films anymore.
I dont think Charlie and the great glass elevator could be a stand alone moern film, because we go from 1970's to god knows, probably an aged and withered gene wilder and probably Hayley Joel Osment in a blonde wig, might be too much for anyone except purists to accept.

Remakes just show how badly the industry is running out of balls. There's still lots of good ideas out there, but no studio is willing to take risks anymore.
But one remake I thought would be cool is if they remade 2001: A Space Oddessy in time for the year 2001. There were some rumors about it happening, but it never pulled through. The movie is great, but it really should've had some time restraints, because it is hard to sit through the entire thing.
My only fear would be that studios would add pointless action scenes to the film and mess with the score. Really, if the screenplay was followed and the slow spaceship scenes were sped up, I think it would give people a film to appreiciate.

Let's give another chance to Lucas, please, his attack of the clowns (sorry clones) was just an 'essai' wasn't it ?

Actually it's funny that you mention a remake of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, is currently in development. Now granted it's a long way from being released but Warner Brothers hired Rob Minkoff to direct it, so its always a possibility. I think it would be a bit off without the songs though. It's just part of the movie.
As for other remakes I was personally glad to see a remake of The Shining, because the original was a good movie on its own accord, but didn't really have much to do with the book. The second one was much closer to the storyline, and since I'm a huge King fanatic I was glad when it finally came along. I would be interested in seeing some other King movies that were done so horribly in the 80's being redone.
Other than that I think only movies which could have been made so much better by the special effects technology that we have today should even be reconsidered. There's already talk about doing another Psycho remake....I mean what's the point really.

I'd like to see 'Vulgar' done with a bigger budget. Pretending someone's back yard was a golf course gave me the biggest laugh of the movie, besides Mewes' scene and the ending.
Stephen King's "The Running Man"- That movie is just begging to be remade where it actually follows the book. Although in post 9/11, the final scene would more than likely be changed, which would just suck because when you think about, it is really the only way the story could end.
The Running Man was a good read.
But yeah, the end scene would be a little too soon at this date. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

i heard another movie about Godzilla was being released. Shit!!! The first remake of godzilla was good but Godzilla 2000 made me wanna puke. Producers need to take more drugs, catch up to the rest of the world, and make something original. Not a single movie made in my lifetime have earned the title of being a "classic". i think we're running out of ideas. it's no wonder depression is so common.
