Anybody else pick up the DVD set? I am really enjoying it, though I heard Fox cancelled the show, as they didn't order more new episodes for next year. Love the show, and I think it has been way under-promoted in a truly garbage time slot (Sunday at 7? are ya kiddin' me?) that gets bumped by footbal or baseball more often than not. Anyway, just looking for other fans of the show to shoot the proverbial [censored] with........

It's on Cartoon Network at 10:00.

Yes, I know, the serialized version of the show is on Cartoon Network (at 11 pm, here). I was merely regretting the loss of the new prime-time episodic show.

It's not that it was bad, but the Simpsons (which it was a bit too close to) were still just a bit better. If the Simpson had started getting ridiculously repetative and contrite like it should have, it might have fared better as a replacement.

I agree the timeslot was terrible. Fox has lost a few shows in that 7pm Sunday slot. I think they almost lost King of the Hill, but the ratings held, then they bumped it up. Still, it was a solid show no matter how you look at it.

Hey, I love the simpsons too. But...
The writing has gotten a little weak.
I love Futurama also. Writing's been pretty solid since it's debut in my opinion.
Fox is just way too concerned with all of those reality shows and stuff. They let a great show fall by the wayside.
They did the same thing to the Ben Stiller show. /forums/images/icons/confused.gif

I agree that the writing of the Simpsons is starting to show signs of age, and Groening has said there isn't too much more he could do with the Simpsons. This season has only been marginally funny, compared with season 3 or 4, for example. And, I don't think Futurama was meant to be the sequel to the Simpsons, as it is more of a gag-fest and less character-driven. Still, I guess the shows will be coming on DVD- season 3 is preordering on Amazon in Europe, and we just got season 1! Hurry up Fox!

Both are top quality cartoons, but there is only so much that can be done with a cartoon, its just about attracting the right audience, and well if tv picks the wrong time then everythings gone all messed up, I think the worst thing about this was is everyone just expected it to be Simpsons in the future and it thus it would be a second rate simpsons but really it was a fresh take on the whole thing. The fact its being axed is sad, but I've seen other (imho potentionally) good cartoons like "Duckman" and "The Critic" taken off the air.

Yeah, the Critic was friggin' hilarious! Never liked Duckman much, though......

Duckman is definately an aquired taste, but after I got into it I really loved it. Futurama is pure genius tho, and keep in mind even though prodution has stopped, we have not seen all the episodes yet due to the crappy timeslot getting shoved for football.

Futurama was a great show and the time slot was a bad thing. What Kind of special features are on the DVD set?

The DVD has full audio commentary (as insisted on by Gorening) and some otherlittle extra slike animatics and production art. Go to FYE and you can get it for like 30 bucks.

I love duckman, its so hard to find anymore, anyone know when it is on??? Futurama is the shit, I love the episode when the worms take over frys body. Right after futurama on Cartoon network is Family Guy, I throughly enjoy that cartoon and watch both of them just about every night.
